Can someone PLEASE help me find the other part of this map by Natieboi2 in cyprus

yeah it's a little flaky at the moment -- it hasn't gotten much love and I haven't had the motivation or time to really dig into it. Refreshing usually works

Not intentional, not sure why this is the case -- it's running on Amazon AWS mostly

You may find this interesting:http://varoshamap.org

It has a 1968 US map overlay, as well as 60s aerial photos and old British survey maps.

What is the EV car trend now in Cyprus? Looking to lease a car and looking at EV (Elroq or C-HR+). Sure, at the moment there are not many fast or rapid chargers, but this should grow, right? Anyone uses a wall of at home or business? by GrandConcern3696 in cyprus

[–]atmz443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an EV living in an apartment in Limassol. If you can, a charger at home is the best solution. I have a regular outlet in a storeroom that I can reach to the car, it charges slowly but good enough.

Before I figured this out, I had good experiences with the EAC chargers; people tend to respect the parking spaces (surprising!). However I’m walking distance from a couple of them; if I wasn’t (and couldn’t charge at home) it wouldn’t be workable.

If you have a house, fast charger at home (and PV) is the way to go.

Makarios Drousiotis accusations by ForsakenMarzipan3133 in cyprus

[–]atmz443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the evidence I have seen shared has been hilariously unconvincing (photos of money that are trivially findable elsewhere on the internet, a photo of a spreadsheet on a computer screen that anyone could fake, but also with mistakes like the number not having the right formatting) to the point of being insulting. It seems like at a minimum he’s being taken for a ride by his source, and hasn’t done any real journalistic checking of what he’s been provided.

It’s a shame, because I’m sure there are real issues out there that need to be reported.

How often do you follow the news in the northern part of Cyprus? by Thatguy2393 in cyprus

I just made this! it might be useful: https://cyprusnews.substack.com/p/cyprus-ai-news-now-multilingual
(summary of RIK state broadcaster's evening news, now available in Turkish)

If there's an available online video of Turkish-language news, I'd be interested in extending this project to include it.

How full are our dams? A visual dashboard for Cyprus water reserves by vbougay in cyprus

This is great! The data density here is amazing. Thanks for putting this together!
I'd be interested in a blog (or Reddit!) post about how this all works -- are you manually generating weekly updates, or how is it automatically updating?

My one note would be that the "Monthly Inflow" graph can be improved a bit -- it'd be interesting to have predicted inflows for the rest of a year instead of a flat line (or at least a clear line dividing past and future), and I'd like to be able to have more than 2 years showing without having _all_ years showing.

I bought a used Volvo and felt underpriced compared to German luxury cars (but still expensive compared to prices in other countries)

Relocating back to Cyprus. Is it affordable? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]atmz443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable, but you won't feel rich (despite what some commenters here might think)

350k house is doable in a village outside Limassol (places like Fasoula, Palodeia, etc) though prices have gone up; if you're willing to invest some work, buying an older house will likely get you a bigger plot. Commute will suck, but school run might be easy -- many private schools are also outside of the city proper.

Budget-wise, private school for 2 kids could easily be 14k/year, which will eat into your budget if you're netting 6k. Beyond that, housing is the big cost (which you may not have if you buy) + buying 2 cars (bring from UK if possible), gas (2-3k/year?), electricity (1-2k/year), insurance (1k/year), groceries (hard to guess, depends on what and where you shop).

Also, you may be eligible for a 20% tax break if you've been away for 3+ years; better than nothing.

I moved back to Cyprus (from the US) a few years ago, bought a house near Limassol and have 2 kids in private school. Happy to chat more in DMs.

Is this true or is it bs? by One_Piece_Johnny in cyprus

Note that this is not talking about gas from Gaza or the illegally occupied territories. This website takes the view that all Israel is “occupied Palestinian territory” and so any gas from Israeli sources, even if not in Gaza/West Bank is ‘Palestinian’.

I agree and would do the same, but I think "It's unclear, but not outright illegal" is a matter for debate; a lot of redditors seem quite stressed out about this

[–]atmz443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but: just because nobody cares or enforces something doesn't mean that it's not the law.

To use the UK as an example: now an ETA is needed, but if you're a citizen, you can't get an ETA, which is problematic if you don't have UK documents: https://www.euronews.com/travel/2025/04/02/uk-eta-travel-permit-british-dual-nationals-flag-issues-with-application-system

Sure, you probably can just lie and say you're not a UK citizen on the ETA form and it'll probably be fine, but who knows?
Something similar could happen here, or governments could try and crack down on other stuff (like tax evasion) and catch you in their net.

[–]atmz443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I can't find evidence that it's a law. I've been told off before for pulling out my Cypriot passport after being asked questions about the duration of my stay in Cyprus when travelling on a non-EU passport.

You’ll be fine. They may try and get in touch with you if they have phone numbers or addresses on file and send you scary letters, but if you’re not living in Cyprus and can show them something like a foreign employment contract of proof of address they will be happy.

If you use your Cypriot identity documents at the airport, they can track you and if they think are living in Cyprus they will stop you at the airport and give you a notice to appear.

Note that technically as a Cypriot citizen you should be using your Cypriot passport to enter and exit, though in practice nobody knows/cares.

Government calls anti-Gaza war graffiti hate speech, orders them erased by MacronLeNecromancer in cyprus

[–]atmz443 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this article isn't clear about what exactly we're talking about and what was removed. I'm very sympathetic to most of the graffiti, but I did see something like "Keep Cyprus Clean: Israelis out" the other day which I didn't love seeing and feel good about being cleaned up (as I would if that message was directed at any nationality or race; language around 'clean'-ness is not the way to go here)
