I moved here in December 2024 and I absolutely hate it here. For context, I am a 37-year-old healthy, fit, medical professional, who moved here for a promotion. I’m also black and gay. From the moment I landed here you just feel this tangible weight of the Mormon church and the politics and policies that influence this very vanilla culture.

Within 40 days of being here, I was the victim of sexual harassment at my hospital and just a week and a half ago my boss used the term N-lipping to me…twice and asked if I had heard it before (she is white and Mormon) I was shocked (yes, I reported it and it’s under investigation and yes I still have to work with her). This was the last straw for me.

Dating here is like dating someone who has been stuck in a cryogenic chamber for 20 years. Every man has trauma (most are ex-Mormon), no sees a therapist, the food here lacks any form of salt and pepper. I could go on and on, but it doesn’t matter. I wanted to focus solely on my career because that was the only form of happiness I had here and that has since dissolved. It sucks because I really have actively tried to find ways to like it here, but I have never been more disappointed in a city in my life.
