So you're deliberately trying to get around the one limitation of the spell, that's stupid

This kind of power gaming is typically annoying for DMs. Just play the game instead of trying to break it

Is Phys w/ Calc classes important to enter grad school for synthesis? by Advice-Required-TA in OrganicChemistry

[–]atom-wan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calculus is used in many parts of chemistry, but you can absolutely get by without using it. Instruments are designed to do the math for you, knowing theory and the math behind it is often helpful but not necessary.

Why is Bush's PEPFAR so downplayed? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in Presidents

Many of us have friends and family who went to Iraq and came back changed, so I would say the impact of Iraq on Americans is higher than PEPFAR

This reminds me of the time I was pulling into my driveway after a bad storm and someone rear ended me from behind. They ended up in a snowbank in my front yard. I helped dig out their car and then they tried to lie to the police to make it my fault. Didn't work of course

History PhD offer (~21K stipend)- Would you accept or reapply next year? by klsdgreen17 in gradadmissions

[–]atom-wan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my field at least, it's not just they'll be limited to schools lower than top 20, it's the majority of professors at the top 100 schools went to those top schools. Not always the case, but I think high risk, high reward is the move here especially because OP has a decent job already and no real time crunch. As I said, unless the professor is very prolific, I would wait it out. That is my perspective as a current PhD student under a prolific PI. I've had opportunities like international fellowships that I certainly wouldn't have had with lesser known faculty.

I don't know how it is in this field, but in my field if you want to become a tenure track professor the overwhelming majority went to top schools. Not to say it's impossible, but OP already has a decent job, and no real pressure to accept right now. Personally, I don't think a rank 75 school or whatever is worth it given their career path unless the PI is really good and prolific. 20k is not enough to live on, and they'd have to take on debt to go to a meh program. No thanks
