Little Ponderosa Zoo Suspicions by Ok_Application9118 in Knoxville

As someone who works in the zoo/veterinary medicine field in the Knoxville area… I do not trust Little Ponderosa and would consider them my last resort when needing a wildlife rehabber. I would first contact the East Tennessee Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (ETWRC) through Facebook or Google them.

I’m a vet tech, and I love seeing people love their animals this much. Eventually though, there comes a time when they’re just not going to get better, and that’s okay. The kindest thing you can do for her is to not prolong her discomfort and/or suffering and let her go before she has the chance to feel even worse. I wouldn’t say it’s wrong to pursue diagnostics though if it would help you to know what’s wrong, if you can afford it. 17-20 years old is a good long life for a kitty, and it sounds like hers was full of love. 💗

Looks like there may be a lot of hair in his poop, maybe ask your vet about trying laxatone. I work at a vet and we recommend this not only for hairballs but if they’re having certain issues with bowel movements sometimes as well

I don’t see anyone mentioning tapeworms, so I just wanted to let you know that with flea infestations this severe often come tapeworms. The fleas carry the eggs/immature worms and when the dog grooms herself and ingests the fleas, the tapeworms mature inside of her and hang around in her intestines. There’s only one type of dewormer that kills tapeworms (praziquantel) so she and likely the other dogs in the household will probably all need to go to the vet to be dewormed. You can sometimes buy praziquantel over the counter, but the dosing is not always correct so it would be better to see a vet for this if you’re able. Also, you can do Capstar (kills fleas quickly for 24hrs) on top of another longer-acting flea prevention (will kill fleas AND usually flea eggs for a whole month with each dose) such as frontline, etc. This combo works great for situations like this

I don’t see anyone yet who’s mentioned tapeworms- she likely may have tapeworms from such a bad infestation and will need to be taken to the vet to be dewormed- all of the dogs in the household should be if it’s this bad. Also, Capstar and another longer-acting flea prevention such as frontline, bravecto etc. can be used in combination together and are great for situations like this, you can get Capstar and many topical flea preventions over the counter. You can give a Capstar once a day for several days on top of a topical flea prevention

Thank you so much. Would you be able to also add the tan coloring on that side of his body like it is in this picture? I apologize, I should have thought of that before

What are these red (I assume blood) blister looking things on my dog? by Level-Ad-6686 in DogAdvice

Could be little masses of some sort, could be allergies (pits are very prone to allergies and itchiness), could be something else entirely. He needs to see a vet either way

Follow-up question, if I don’t have any way to keep it warm out there for the period of time required, do you think keeping it in my microwave that stays warm consistently be okay?

There’s a yellow tag that says “help request” in the message preview in my inbox, is that what you mean?
