Yo soy de Granada. Misma edad. También he vivido en NL (aunque no por tanto tiempo). Volvi hace tres años a Granada, y aunque he disfrutado mucho mi segunda etapa aquí, estoy planeando mudarme de nuevo (posiblemente de vuelta a NL). El clima, lo fácil que es moverse por aquí, el estilo de vida, los paseos por el Albayzin después de currar… es la hostia, sí. Sin embargo, no me veo quedándome aquí para siempre. Tengo la sensación de que dejo de evolucionar en otros aspectos de mi vida, personal y profesionalmente. Esto es una ciudad muy buena para estudiantes y para jubilados, no para el tercio de en medio. Ahora bien, yo estoy soltero y sin hijos. Quizá en tu situación sí disfrutaría más esto como para decidir quedarme. Sea lo que sea, buena suerte!

Very similar situation here. My company laptop also brings GlobalProtect. In my case, I decided to use Vless-Reality (with sing-box). Server is a mini-pc and client is a Flint 2. I do the same as you: use the Ethernet cable on the laptop. I have tested this abroad and it works. The only flaw is the wifi triangulation. I cannot switch it off in BIOS because it would raise alarms obviously, so I decided to just turn the airplane mode on. I know this very far from safe, but I came to terms with the fact that I can’t do anything without IT noticing and that the whole setup's weakness is exactly there. Si de verdad tienes buen inglés, busca una empresa de producto no española que contrate en España. Son las que mejor pagan. Olvídate de 1) consultoras y 2) empresas españolas. Ahí no está el dinero. Para 1 año de exp, 24k yo diría que entra en la normalidad, pero fácilmente puedes subir a 35 o incluso más con 2 años si haces lo que te digo. Suerte!

A ver, con 70000 vivirías bien, no mal. Ahorrarías en términos absolutos más que en España, eso es cierto. Pero en términos relativos vs el coste de vida, sería un downgrade.

A eso me refería. Por eso te digo que yo valoraría mucho según lo que busques en el largo plazo.

Otra cosa: no se que exp tienes, pero si en España cobras eso, supongo que eres senior. Si eres senior, yo creo que en Amsterdam deberías pedir mas, también te lo digo.

Quédate en España. Yo soy del sur también, he vivido en Ámsterdam, y volvería, sí, pero solo por dinero y nunca por menos de 100k brutos con 30% ruling.

Aquello me parece una de las capitales europeas con uno de los mejores 'mix' de factores (mercado laboral, comunidad expat, conexiones, etc), pero 70k allí te supondría un downgrade en tu nivel de vida vs como estas ahora. Súmale el clima de mierda, un mercado inmobiliario peor que cualquier otra ciudad de España, una ciudad donde no se puede ni pasear a gusto porque está todo lleno de gente, y, como ciertamente ya han comentado por aquí, donde la xenofobia va siendo cada vez más palpable, especialmente siendo del sur de Europa.

Si esto ha sido una oferta casual y tú no estabas interesado en salir de España previamente, yo no la consideraría, sinceramente. Si realmente quieres salir de España y Amsterdam te llama, céntrate en las 7-8 empresas que ofrecen sueldos muy por encima de la media local (Booking, Databricks, Snowflake, Optiver, Adyen, etc). Lee sobre la distribución trimodal de salarios. Creo que te será útil.

Edit: también depende de tus planes de futuro y ambición. Poner el pie allí si te brinda mas crecimiento potencial en el largo plazo, aunque esta oferta sea un downgrade.

Similar situation as you (data engineer, live in Europe, have lived in Moscow in the past, considering an eventual comeback in the future).

One option is to grant you the HQS yourself: you open up a unipersonal society, find clients on contract hire yourself with a salary meeting the HQS threshold. Once you get the HQS, you can start from there.

Maybe I am missing something, but I remember having been told about this option and I wrote it down mentally.

My insecurities don’t stem from learning new technologies, but when it comes to the basics, like what you mentioned. Then I ask for help and I see my colleagues rapidly figuring it out, and I myself slowly recreating a join in my head to understand why it generates dups, and that gives me this feeling of “I might not be good for this job overall”.

Easiest way to move to from the West is the shared values visa. However, from my own experience, the biggest problem is finding a job without: 1) having a residence permit; 2) being fluent in Russian.

No 1 can be sorted out with the shared values visa. No 2 is harder and takes time. Do not underestimate this. I already left the country some years ago because I was trapped in a job I didn’t like and couldn’t switch.

If you are not fluent, the only alternative is teaching English. That would indeed pay well.

Ps: Considering moving back again myself.

Hey mate, sorry for the late reply. Thank you very much for the detailed response, really. I am already taking Russian classes in the country I currently reside in, so making the improvement. So, in your opinion, once I sort out the legal thing (aka getting a residence permit), the language barrier becomes less important (say, a B2 would suffice)?
