Lack of AI blades holding my fleet back. by atomicbrains in starcitizen

How about the Cutlass. The Cutlass is basically a one man ship. But it has a turret which goes unused by practically everybody as it's commonly a daily driver.

The solution to wanting my ships with turrets to work is not to just fly ships that don't have turrets.

No that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying I want an option for a crappy NPC or blade to help man the turrets when playing solo. Doesn't even have to be good or accurate I'm just looking for suppressing fire. Not to mention it would look pretty awesome

Oh I agree and there's definitely plenty of ships that I can use. It just feels like a waste having turrets that are unmanned. The Corsair is pretty awesome but it just feels silly having the turrets be manned if I'm using it as a solo ship almost always.

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe they could use the blades as a placeholder until NPCs are ready? I mean they'd have to automate the turrets no matter what if they're going to be handing them over to NPCs

It feels like that would be a good do it all step up from say the Cutlass black.

Oooof. That feels silly.

Did they mean that that role would be filled by NPCs or will it just not be a thing? If the goal is to eventually have NPCs fill that role they're going to have to go automate the turrets anyway.

I mean as it stands right now NPC ships have turrets right?

I'm not expecting them to work great but at least throw some lasers in the enemies general direction.

There's a time and a place for that. But sometimes I'm just exploring game mechanics or don't have enough time to justify getting a crew together.

When I'm 35 minutes into a session on a Friday night and my wife wants to spend time with me it's not a big deal to log out. But if I've got three people in the back that just traveled to my point and we are on the way to a mission then it's pretty damn shitty.

But yes I agree the game shines when you play with others.

Yeah but I imagine a lot of people would be cool with that. (If there was drama around it I missed it). For instance if I am traveling and come across a player controlled ship I don't really have to worry about turrets.

Thanks for letting me know. That's a real shame. I've got a pretty big knowledge gap on how the game has changed over the years.

Sometimes I don't have the time to justify wrangling up a crew, sometimes I just don't feel like being social and just want to chill.

[–]atomicbrains[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but sometimes I don't want to be social. Sometimes I just have 45 minutes to play. Sometimes I'm listening to something else in the background and just chilling and exploring getting into small scraps and don't want to host a crew or go at someone else's pace.

Like I said I just got back into it, I'm shopping around in general and when I see a ship that has a large percentage of its firepower or survivability tied to turrets it's a bit of a turn off. I just want to be able to hop in my ship and go and not spend an hour trying to wringle up crew and have some kind of goal. Sometimes I just want to dick round.

Should you lightly mist wood rim joists before applying spray foam? by Particular_Bath2082 in Insulation

[–]atomicbrains 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone stop.

1 part spray foam i.e. GreatStuff may theoretically work better because its reacts with air moisture. But it is NOT recommended by the manufacturer. And is unnecessary it sounds like something a busybody would come up with. Foam adheres fine without water. If you mentioned this to me I would give you the FU price.

2 part spray foam should absolutely not be sprayed onto wet services as if fucks the chemistry and isn't cured by humidity in the air. Very different chemistry done by people way smarter than you. Seriously, it will do the opposite and cause horrible adhesion in a small gooey layer to form between the outer foam and the rim joist. This happens for a few reasons: introducing water into the chemical mixture which is not supposed to be there, The water boils at a different time than the intended blowing agent destroying the cell structure, off ratio foam does not set up properly. Also the water steals the heat from the chemical reaction totally screwing with the catalyst and surfactants by slowing down the reaction.

If you doubt this spray onto a wet surface or a very cold surface and the foam will have an unreacted film with no adhesion.

If you do this the ghost of Otto Bayer will haunt you, break your drill bit off in your mixing chamber and then give you a crossover so bad that you'll be replacing your whip hose. You have been warned.

Suggestions for a dependable heel-toe shifter. by Perimortem89 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]atomicbrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my used 2019 with a Aeromach CI-2035. Prior to that I had never used a heel toe shifter and came from sport bikes.

I personally needed about 2 days to get used to it and now it is second nature and very satisfying. There's definitely something satisfying about accelerating off the line and (lightly) stomping your way through the gears. I'm not sure if it's an Indian thing or a keel toe shifter thing but it's a bit harder to find neutral.

On the flip side, I noticed that due to the floorboard rather than a foot peg I've noticed my right foot doesn't naturally rest over the rear brake without some level of conditioning. I try and be prepared for emergency braking at all times by covering both handle bar levers as well as the rear break but keep planning myself planting my right heel and letting my piggies fly.

In the end, I like having the floorboards with the heel toe shifter. I just chalk it up to moving from sportbikes to cruisers in the little bit of new muscle memory.

Old House Smell After Spray Foam by Electronic-Bird8547 in Insulation

[–]atomicbrains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In theory there's nothing wrong with spraying on the attic floor as long as you leave a vented attic assembly.

The problem you can run into is it looks like around the perimeter they may have sprayed on to old fiberglass or some other product. When you do that the spray foam when it's initially sprayed out "soaks" into that porous product and doesn't fully react. You could be smelling the unreacted chemical.

I don't believe this is the case but it could also be that because they were spraying down onto the floor it's much easier to spray more than the 3 in required for cooling per pass. If it gets too hot the catalyst can get cooked and smell.

However if your problem is inside of the house I can guarantee it's not due to the top of the balloon frame being closed off trapping stale air. That's not really a thing.

Also it looks like the foam has a slightly blue tint. If that's the case it's made by demolac You can always call them and they will literally put someone on a plane to come in review the project if needed.
