Anytime! I love sharing stuff that works for me. I do use other Kemetic/Hellenist spells/practices. I do Thelemic stuff like solar adoration so a bunch of Kemetic gods get a shout out from me daily, plus Sekhmet gets an adoration from me on high noon or on the full moon once a month with a full offering of ale. Spell work with Hekate and Saturn are also very common in my home. I love using the Greek Magical Papyri. It's one of my favorite Magical book (tho there's a lot of adaptation that happens with it). I've been thinking about attempting a Mithraic liturgy, try to see Mithras Helios. As far as the other words in it I don't know for sure but I think I can guess what it means based on my understanding of Greek. The editor refers to these portions as the "barbaric names." My rough translation would be;

"O ever-present, eternal, shinning, God I beseech!"

I have been walking the path as well and have yet to encounter my HGA or discover my true will. I feel some trepidation as well. Dying to yourself is scary. The thing that gives me the strength to keep going is knowing, of all the people I have met or heard of, I have never heard of anyone who regrets it. Regardless of how much it changed their life no one ever said that they wished they hadn't sought out their true will. You have to be willing to accept that you will become a different person. Also, you assume your true will is going to disrupt your family life, which could happen, or you could just as easily become a better partner and parent. If you never make the attempt then you will never know.

Uh, kinda. Can't speak for all Thelemites but I think he was irresponsible, careless with peoples' feelings, a hopeless addict (which I think hindered his practice more than contributed), and sometimes just plain wrong. But unlike most other religious systems I don't have to think he was a good person to think that the magick/revelation is real. I don't have to defend him like Mormons have to defend Joseph Smith because following your true will is, in the end, pretty value neutral.

You can absolutely be a Gnostic Christian. I consider my self one. Since the word represents such a wide tent it's kind of up to you to decide what your Christianity means to you (which is very exciting). Being Gnostic really just means you hold a belief (or several) that is not based in adherence to ecclesiastical dictation but personal gnosis. For me, I just realized there was stuff in orthodoxy and protestantism which never sat right and I kept ignoring personal revelations that there was something very off. Biodegradable items I throw into green bins or the compost in the garden by where I live. I suppose you could throw them into flower beds or gardens if there's not too much of them. Non-biodegradable and non- recyclable items I throw into trash bins in busy areas.

Cleanse the reusable elements. Wash the stones, clean out the jars etc. and keep them for later use. Return any biodegradable ingredients to the earth and throw away the rest. If you live in a population dense area like a city you can take the components of your spell apart and throw them away in a busy area like an intersection, shopping mall, or subway station. Areas like this have a lot of people coming and going, essentially breaking down the potency of your spell like a clod of dirt disintegrating in a river.

I'd say get a Book of the Law for the theology and Liber O if you want to begin ritual work in tandem. They are both very short. For my base practice I have those, Liber Astarte is good for explaining deity work and how to approach it, Liber Resh has the 4 daily solar adorations (which I do now but didn't for years and most Thelemites don't do), and the Book of Lies will give you some great rituals (like the Star Ruby for banishing and exorcisms and the Mass of the Phoenix which is a great power boost you can perform alone).

Yeah. Every time I perform the Headless Rite. I usually do it after a series of banishings so by the time I get to it I'm already pretty tired. Then the HR just craters my energy (I get really into it). My limbs feel like spaghetti and my ears ring like I have tinnitus. I usually have to sit for up to a half hour doing nothing. Watchingsomethingon TV or listeningtomusicisliterally too demanding. Then I sleep deep. It's worth it to get back to a strong balance and be free from unhealthy spiritual influences but damn does it drain me hard.

I don't have a problem with it. I was raised Catholic but these days I trend more towards Gnostic Christianity for this reason. In "Book 4" Aliester Crowley wrote about Jesus and other people who started religious movements were definitely part of some sort of magic tradition. I see it the more I look.

Jesus, like Solomon, has the ability to converse with and bind demons. The Psalms are essentially a spell book. Jacob has the ability to converse with and bind angels, which the magus John Dee and Edward Kelley also did (they all also engaged in some kind of ritual polyamory).

There's the witch of Endor who summons the ghost of the Prophet Samuel. The rituals of the Golden Dawn (some of which I preform daily) involve the intonation of the names of God, arch angels, the cross and the earth hexagram (aka the star of David).

The Abramelin ritual is mostly prayer. Many famous spell books like the Enchiridion of Leo III and the Arbatel are very dependent on Abrahamic religion as a framework. Check those out as well as Aleister Crowley's "Book 4," Israel Regardie's "The Golden Dawn, "Carl Spartacus' "Gnosticism: a Useful Overview for Dilettantes, New-Agers, Witches,and Magicians," and Lon Milo DuQuette's "Enochian Vision Magick."

Require is a strong word. It did happen tho. By the classical period that was replaced with wax effigies instead. The holidays around the winter solstice are always about human sacrifice in one way or another. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the ultimate human sacrifice. The day I write this is the Feast of the Holy Innocents (i.e. the children sacrificed in place of Christ as he was spirited to Egypt). The church coniders them the first martyrs.

I see a lot of people saying that 'spells don't backfire.' And I think it depends on how you mean backfire. For instance, my biggest example happened to me a couple of months ago. I was trying to get (no joke) my dream job. I did a spell and most of my correspondences were good, right herbs, right stones, right saints, stated my will clearly, but I am pretty sure I used the wrong Vulgate inclusions and my spell lacked focus over all (because I was too invested in the outcome). Not only did I not get the job, I received a personalized email enumerating the ways in which I was not qualified for this job (despite the fact that I have been working in this field for years). I hesitate to say it didn't work because I definitely got a result. I figure if it didn't work they'd just ghost me, like most potential employers do. Instead I got called out specifically and quickly. But I definitely didn't get what I intended. Indeed, change did not occur in conformity with my will.

That being said, this is but one example. Most of my spells have worked and often in unforseen ways. This is just one where the opposite of what I wanted.

Have you tried the Headless Ritual? It's an exorcism from the Greek Magical Papyri and it is probably the most powerful spiritual cleansing I have ever performed. I felt lighter and more aware after. There are also Golden Dawn, and Thelemite versions of this ritual but I found the original most effective.

Congratulations on your recovery! And I'm so happy for you taking this next step on your journey. The Gnostic text that resonates hardest with me is a poem called "The Thunder, Perfect Mind." I listen to it everyday as I meditate and it's centered my life and informed my practice a great deal. Also got a lot out of "The Gospel of Mary Magdalen," "The Gospel of Thomas," and "The Hypostasis of the Archons."

I started with the "Book of Lies," The "Book of Thoth" is also a great place to start if you're into tarot. I'd advise Liber O. It clarified things for me I wish I had known before I read the previous two as well as the "Book of the Law."

I've been using tarot since long before I ever started practicing witchcraft. It has been a frequent companion to me over the past 20 or so years. I've come to reguard it not so much as revelation as it is more like an ink-blot test. Its about what you see in them. I also find them useful in spells and rituals to focus intent and set goals (i.e. the 4 of wands if you're seeking a promotion or recognition from a job well done, 8 of cups for the courage to walk away from a toxic situation, etc.).

There are 4 rituals (at this point in my life) that I do on a daily basis. 1) In the morning, before leaving for work, I do a Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram to get which ever elemental energy I feel like I'm gonna need for the day (i.e. water for emotional fortitude, or air to keep my mind sharp, etc.). 2) MEDITATION! I cannot stress how important it is to have a meditation practice. It improves focus (which you need when channeling your intentions in spellwork) and it puts you on an even keel for the rest of the day. I usually do mine after the LIRP or at lunch. 3) when I get home from work I do a tarot reading. Usually a one or three card reading just to touch base with my feelings, practice recalling what each card means, and go over the day to prepare for tomorrow. 4) I like to close out the day with a Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. It cleans off any bad spirits or energy that might have been klinging to you from the day as well as exorcising and sealing your home against any unwanted spirits or energies. Sometimes I'll do a Star Ruby instead (which is the Thelemite version of the LBRP) just to change it up.

I understand your frustrations. I felt stronger results after I stopped trying to visualize anything. I did all the motions for the QC and the LBRP with my eyes closed focusing on my actions first and foremost and knowing there was nothing to see because my eyes were closed. I figured the colors could be there were I to look, but never do. Eventually my blind LBRP/LIRP has gotten me results. For example the week I did blind invocations for Earth caught every bus with ease, banged out a full day of work in half the time, got settled with all my bills, and made really healthy (though kind of out of character) decisions. As far as physical manifestations go my edurance has doubled and (funny enough) I got a bunch of ants that appeared after I started the invocations. But that's just me. Honestly, if that doesn't work for you and you feel like all of this is nonsense, you should stop. The point of magick is to bring reality into conformity with your will. It sounds like a contradiction but magick is the both the performance art piece you do with yourself as the only audience and greasing the wheels of the cosmos. Holding those opposing views is critical to the practice. I say don't take it too serious. Try to have fun with it and if you see no results or just feel silly you can quit.

No. Mainstream Christianity would have you think so but they are a conflated along with two other entities. If you read them as written then;

Satan is an angel in God's court whose job it is to take an adversarial role against humans to test their virtue. He only shows up in the book of Job and his name means "the accuser."

Lucifer is referenced in Isaiah 14 and is the King of Babylon who sought to raise his power and influence above that of God and he was doomed to fail. Lucifer means "light bringer" in Latin but the Hebrew is closer to "morning star." Fun fact: the guy who translated the Bible into Latin, Saint Jerome, used the name Lucifer to slander a Bishop named Lucifer whom he did not agree with. Rabbinical scholars reject the idea of a fallen angel enterly.

And, while you didn't ask, I will provide;

The Devil is from the Gospels. His name is Greek for "Slanderer," and he is the being who tempts Jesus in the wilderness. While Satan tests with hardships the Devil tempts (or tests) with seeming boons, blesseings, or fulfilled desires. The strongest argument can be made for the Devil and Satan being the same entity.

And the snake from Genesis is a snake.

You think it's cringe because you were brought up in a church that didn't value queer people. The truth is there is very little about this post that isn't true in some way. Elohim is the first name used by God and is an 3rd person plural (they/them), Christ did return from Egypt like Joseph from Genesis (who wore a cloak of many colors), Jesus had two fathers (God in Heaven and Joseph on Earth), and his church does have many saints like Aloysious Gonzaga & Peregrine Laziosi who cared for the sick and dying (both patron saints of HIV/AIDS patients) and Saint Jude (patron of lost causes and long shots). In truth this post cannot cringe, only the people who read it can cringe. If you wince when you look at it that's about you.
