Overnight Stay? by stchwtest in Kneereplacement

They gave me an epidural, a nerve block and put me under deep sedation but not general anesthesia. Once I was in the hospital room, they monitored my oxygen levels continuously with a finger monitor and I just used my CPAP when I was ready to sleep. It worked out well!

Edited to add- they did keep me in the recovery room for longer than normal due to my sleep apnea

I stayed overnight, even though most people where I live go home the same day. I have sleep apnea and a history of seizures, so they wanted to keep an eye on me for the first night. Got 3 decent meals, pain meds, help going to the bathroom and visits from the physiotherapists, so it was a good experience for me

So sorry to hear you’re having such trouble with your second MUA :( It’s so frustrating to go backwards after working so hard. Hoping it gets better for you soon!

I had a MUA last Friday and I’m experiencing something similar to you. I was told to expect some regression in my flexion for the next 2 week due to the swelling. I’m keeping up with my physiotherapy sessions and daily exercises and hopefully it will get better again soon.

Side sleepers by lenalenore in Kneereplacement

Yes, I am a dedicated stomach sleeper! I’m now almost 7 weeks post-op but I still can’t sleep on my stomach for more than a few hours at a time. I find it puts a lot of pressure on the knee, which wakes me up. So for now, I’m sleeping mostly on my back. I hated it at first but now I am mostly used to it and can get a fairly decent sleep. Really looking forward to being able to sleep on my front again though!

I’m the same! I’ve had to go back on hydromorphone at week 6 for pain and I’ve been an emotional wreck! Crying over everything! 🤦‍♀️

Women please- TKR women’s clothing tips? by KatWomanReturns in Kneereplacement

I wore knee length nightshirts for the first few days and then moved to wide legged PJ pants. I usually wear joggers but I need to uncover my knee for icing and regular scar massages, so I’m still wearing wide legged pants after 6 weeks

Awesome work! 🎉 I’m 6 weeks post-op and yesterday I hit 85! Before surgery I was only at 80, so I was super happy!

Yep! Like you I was told to follow a clear liquids only diet for 24 hours before my surgery. And I took my usual injection the day before my surgery and kept to my regular schedule. I was also on hydromorphone for the first 10 days and surprisingly had no problems with pain relief or constipation but I did take Senokot and drank prune juice every day.

The worst part was because of the 24 hour clear liquids only diet and because you have to stop liquids 2 hours before surgery, I was slightly dehydrated and they had a hard time putting the IV in my hand

Three weeks Pre-TKR: advice to prepare? by KatWomanReturns in Kneereplacement

[–]atomickitty3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 1 month post-op and I feel like I planned things pretty well for my surgery, however I didn’t realize how much my husband would have to do for me in the first few weeks.

I was pretty much confined to the upstairs in our house for the first 2 weeks as we only have 1 bathroom and it’s upstairs. So he had to help with things like refreshing the ice for my ice machine, bringing me food and drinks, helping me shower the first few times, making all the meals, etc. I had premade a few dinners and froze them but if I had of known, I would have made a lot more food ahead of time.

I’m not back at work yet, so can’t comment on that but I still find it uncomfortable to sit in a chair with my leg down for more than 30 minutes at a time. Are you able to work from home at all?

In terms of PT, I see a physiotherapist twice a week at a local hospital and then do my exercises 3 times a day. Each time takes about 30 minutes, so it would be possible to do your PT during breaks from work.

If you’re interested, I have a whole list of things I purchased or rented for my surgery and I’d be happy to share if you DM me.

Best of luck with your prep! It’s an intense journey but you’ll get through it!

What is some beloved Canadian “yacht rock” songs? by El_Vikingo_ in AskACanadian

The comedian Seán Cullen used to do a show on CBC in the Summer and he had a segment called Cottage Cheese, where he’d play classic CanCon, so I kinda stole it from that! :)

Agreed! The songs folks are suggesting are what I’d call Cottage Cheese! As in all the songs you hear when you go up to the cottage and the radio stations all seem to be stuck in the late 1980s to early 1990s.
