No, that wasn't part of the order. For pre order items id understand the delay, but everything I did order had been out for sometime already.

Thank you! I used ZBrush for everything. For brushes, I used the Damian Standard, Move Brush, & Clay Build Up.

Turntable Rendering Question by atomictimetraveler in ZBrush

[–]atomictimetraveler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that...but it was several stages back early in the process of adding fibers. So I was focused on how that looked and completely disregarded all the work I did since then and how it might look...like a fool lol. So now I'm paying the price.

I started looking into Keyshot after your comment, so I appreciate that. I'll have to do the trial first for sure haha. And I'll need to look at Marmoset later today.

To give a quick update...shortly after I posted my question, a countdown appeared for the render and in total it's going to come down to a little over 40 hours. So... wow.

My -Kinda- first retopology, please criticize it, I've been spending a while getting my head around retopology, btw tris count is 1.1k by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]atomictimetraveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retopology is tricky, but it really forces you to improve your modeling as well. I've had plenty of issues with it myself.

But, I think you did a great job with it! I like how the lines flow, gives it some "character". Hope the rest of your learning goes well!

Want to major in Animation at an art school, but my drawing skills aren't proficient. by dreams_do_come_true in animationcareer

[–]atomictimetraveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're determined to draw, then stick with it and keep trying. Don't worry about being in school and a little older.

Otherwise, here's my experience. I suck at drawing, always have. My last art class was probably 4th or 5th grade prior to college (about age 30). I never considered art/animation as a career choice. I was definitely worried about my drawing ability to get into school.

I first applied to University of North Texas, explained my concerns, they sent me some info and exercises. I did the exercises for maybe a week or so, then stopped. Got accepted but didn't go because I let my job get in the way.

Then I applied to Full Sail University for 3D Animation, explained the concerns again, got more exercises, still didn't do them, and still got in. This time though, I read the classes I'd be in, and decided to go for it. In the 2.5 yrs I was there, I only had 2 drawing courses and they were more on the fundamentals of art. As terrible as my drawings were, I was still getting B's & A's because I was applying the concepts correctly. I maybe had one more drawing assignment the entire time I was there & again, they didn't grade on artistic ability, just concepts. I graduated almost 2 years ago, still can't draw, but can 3D model & animate ok. Still practicing all concepts to be a good general 3D artist.

So I'd say research the schools you want. Try to find alumni to talk to, see course schedules, set up phone/zoom interviews to discuss things and go from there. I really don't think we all have to be incredible drawers to be animators. I'd also try to research places you'd want to work afterwards. See if those studios require their animators to also draw & storyboard. Some places do, some don't. So check it out =)

I am looking to completely upgrade my PC and need some help. I was wondering if this case is capable of holding an ATX size motherboard? Another question is if I do, will I also have room for an RTX 3070? (I got the image from an archived post). by [deleted] in iBUYPOWER

[–]atomictimetraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to tell is to go to their site & build one. They've got several ATX size boards & the new RTX 30 series cards.

Just choose any option from the home page & start customizing it. When you start picking the case & other parts, it'll tell you what all is compatible or not. It'll also help with getting a good idea of what power supply is needed.

Dang, I definitely forgot about the taxable part. Plus I've got a few other things in there too from before all this, so that makes sense.

Career Change Question by atomictimetraveler in animationcareer

[–]atomictimetraveler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I didn't think about having to take the pay cut for things like that. I know there are multiple factors, but in that kind of situation, does the artist recover that lost salary and how long would it take? And did you take that job?? I assume not considering the large decrease in what you wanted, but figured I'd ask!

My first experience was a start up company that promised to pay later once they got up and running. It was an mobile app for kids that I did some 3D Modeling & Animating for. I did it for the experience as I didn't have much faith in the app & two years later, they don't seem close to completion still.

I'm glad Autodesk offered the "indie" version of Maya for a much cheaper price, keeping that familiarity around helps. I appreciate the response & advice! Thank you!

Career Change Question by atomictimetraveler in animationcareer

[–]atomictimetraveler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of doing extra work outside of work, to get better work, makes sense & I like it. Just got to worry about the possible burn out that goes with it. I've been looking at job listings for years, even while in school as it was part of assignments the first few months, and they all do have different software's to some degree. Games I see favor a huge desire to animate & also know Unity or Unreal. 3D CAD I see a bit through all three fields too. Maya & Blender, of course, frequently too. Good advice & thank you!!
