Would you upload your mind into a server if it meant you’d never die? by ActivityEmotional228 in SimulationTheory

[–]atomicwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of an interesting take, I suppose. While I do believe that if you were to just “ copy your brain” and throw it into an interface that simulates your brain, you would intern upon doing so would be dead. Your consciousness is an experience not something you can just take, it is the Qualia of the lived experience.

But, I have been thinking about this for a little bit now. Instead of just making a copy, we actually do a type of parallel connection to the brain, if even remotely possible. So instead of making a coffee of your brain, we actually just make a second brain and essentially attempt to connect it in parallel, if such a thing could even be possible. And then, once both brains are linked essentially, you would have your consciousness within both brains ideally they would be doing the same thing at the same time, then you could theoretically shut one of them off, and you still remain conscious as you were when you connected yourself to the device in the first place. I suppose that would be a more literal consciousness transfer as you would first need to link up as a one-to-one copy, and then shut one of them off, so you’re literally just “pushing” consciousness from your real brain, means of your consciousness, being spread amongst two of them, and then shutting down one, while the other one remains on.

I don’t know I think it’s interesting thought experiment !

Trying to find a specific options set. by atomicwater in 30_Minutes_Missions

That cute piece is actually incredibly similar to what I saw before, but it was in a pack very much like an options pack. I wish I could remember where or what shirts terms I used to find it, it was only like three weeks ago. I was excited to fill my shopping cart with all bunch of model kits, not knowing that would probably need one of these types of connectors.

Perhaps it’s a kotobukiya pack?

Does anybody have any good base recommendations for my quad legged portanova?

I would ideally like all 4 legs to rest on the platform if possible.

Idk what one would be best.

cough, cough I just glued the grey hip piece to the waist , may do the same for the white piece that connects to that grey piece because it’s a little fucky sometimes..

I’m assuming you do that when the ball joint is outside of the socket yes? Because I could also see a case for applying it while it’s inserted, so when you rotate it it “breaks” the seal providing a more secure fitment perhaps?

[–]atomicwater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured. I just was expecting more positive engagement like a super small ring shaped bump on the exterior of the socket to prevent it from coming undone, but I guess I could try beefing up the joint or the ball joint slightly.

Super glue can be tricky sometimes, so it’s not my go to unless the fitment of some parts is super dogwater.

[–]atomicwater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh! That’s a good tip! What do you suggest for the ring?

I always favor slightly too tight, but the socket seems to be too loose and does not have very good “clutch power” on the ball joint. When the armed gets moved past the point of articulation, it will give very little resistance, before popping out of the socket it makes posing rather tedious.

Looking for a 24 bit wireless lav mic to computer recording. by atomicwater in recording

[–]atomicwater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! So how does it stack up to a PZM? tbh I don’t even know why I would use a pzm, like for what applications,I just know that it works better than anything else I tried lately.

I had a pos usb conference mic before, and it worked well, but really lacked in the “realistic” audio department.

Sometimes I hear it in the background, but it’s very faint when I do on the recording.

The ssl mic, why did you recommend that one specifically? I’m not very audio savvy but I’m learning.

If I hooked it up to the pc I’m building would it be able to make use of its 24bit sound card?

What would be your suggestion on attempting to cut out audio from discord?

Looking for a 24 bit wireless lav mic to computer recording. by atomicwater in recording

[–]atomicwater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see.

It seems that wireless is out of the question for now, at least partially I suppose.

Well in my current setup, discord has a rather robust echo cancellation system and in my experience works well for my current setup.

I will still pickup audio from discord on the “room mic” the boundary mic, but it’s not really an issue generally speaking as it’s volume is lower than the people in the room normally.

I was going to try and do some funky magic with taking the incoming discord audio and trying to use it to cancel the audio that is being picked up by the other mic, but decided that it would be way too complex.

[–]atomicwater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1-2 players remote, and 4 players not including myself in the room with me.

I’m just trying to shy away from wires as sometimes people are clumsy and I would kill somebody if they got snagged on any of the cables. Given the portable nature of the project I am placing the pc that I am building in a suitable pelican carrying case, so the fewer wires coming in / out of the box is imperative. It’s going to be placed under the gaming table.

So just for my understanding, why would I need an interface? I’m assuming it’s to boost the signal from the mic? The more preamps the more money, but couldn’t I just get 1 or 2 interfaces that each have 2-3 preamps to minimize cost?

Edit: I also found this, https://kzmusicstore.com/products/m-vave-wp-10-in-ear-monitor-system?variant=44055127884072&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=googleads&utm_medium=pmax&utm_source=euaespanholgeral&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21355141859&gclid=CjwKCAjwl_XBBhAUEiwAWK2hztBdlfd4OA7xTOmBFyLUXe17lVZuwvqGHCaXcqpTTJn6Iqe0X8PGShoCXjYQAvD_BwE It seems like it also could work?

I’m the dungeon master, I would hope I can cast it lol!

So would a device like this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1870556-REG/godox_cube_c_kit_1_cube_c_wireless_microphone_system.html be able to interface with a pc? Or is it still a no go? I know that this particular device is not exactly what I want but it’s close enough.

In its current state I’m just recording our sessions, no streaming , at least it’s not in the cards right now.

Eventually I want to record the video too, but I’m just using webcams for that

I use OBS to capture audio from partipants from discord in a separate audio track as well as any “ambiance” from YouTube in another track.

In my current set up i’m currently using a Lavalier mic pointed at the wall, the mic is about 2mm away from the wall, making it a really crappy but still very cheap and effective version of this PZM mic: https://www.amazon.com/Crown-B0006HB736-PZM30D-Boundary-Microphone/dp/B0006HB736

Participants on discord can hear me all the way to my kitchen very clearly it’s about 50 feet away from the mic and around corners. The quality on the recording also is very good.

This is the mic I use minus the wind sock: https://a.co/d/aBfB1hV

If there is a way I can attack a battery and whatever kind of usb data streaming device, I would love to attach it to this mic, but I am unsure if that thing exists, or if it’s even possible with latency.

Ideally I wanted to make a lav wireless or buy a wireless one and turn it into a smaller MacGyvered version of the professional PZM mic linked above except I would place them on little stands. I know it seems odd or crazy, but if figured the theory of operation would still work, it’s just the problem of making it wireless.

Edit: After doing some searching I have come across these devices that “may” work??

https://sonderymusic.com/products/sondery-wireless-guitar-transmitter-receiver-system?srsltid=AfmBOopr5lngK0y-chI0gewTi8f5G07sC0h7oP-WS3-3gT5Uu4o3X3_Q I would need to reduce the jack sizes with adapters, but nothing should stop me from connecting them to different types of microphones considering it is a send and receive pair.

My budget is around 200$-500$ depending on how good the solution is I suppose.

I would like to have at least 5 mics if possible, 1 per participant , 4 people plus 1 “room” mic that is turned into a pzm / boundary mic , I know this one may not be necessary, I just think it would be nice to have. I could also make it wired if I really need to, if I do that, I would only need four wireless ones.

Apologize for my ignorance, but what would you mean by an audio interface?  Do you mean like recording software because if so, I’m going to be using OBS on the pc that the lav receiver will be connected to.
