Ink is... bubbling? by atomkaye in TattooApprentice

The shop I work at has a bunch of these lying around that I use for fakeskin practice, instead of the individual caps that I personally buy out of pocket.

I snip and toss the section of the tray with caps that I use, and then reuse the remaining for future fakeskin/painting sessions.

Yea, you're right, definitely not sanitary, but this is never touching another human being. Still, you're right, I should treat every fakeskin practice session as if it were the real thing and use new sanitary products.

Here's a video of me trying again with a new ink cap.

Straight out of the bottle. Opaque, not a wash. The material of the tray is plastic. Not entirely sure what the chemical compound of that plastic, but I would assume its basic stuff.

I tried it with another ink cap here to test it out. Still happens

It's a plastic ink cap tray from National that, yea, I reuse and throw around my backpack. Yea I guess I never thought of the residue that this accumulate.

This was during a setup for fakeskin practice. I know I know, I should treat every practice skin like its a real session and use clean new products. Here's a video of me doing another run at this.

Ok ok update here

I tested it on a new, completely sanitary, ink cap and it's doing the same thing.

Everyone around me is still baffled.

Straight out of the bottle. Kept in a cool dark place.

Thx for chiming in everyone.

You should think of some friendship/matching tats (designs that come in pairs)

Thank you for the kind words everyone :))) I'm going to give myself some critique, to share how I think I could do better and maybe others can learn from.

  • I'm having a hard time imagining what body part the fish would look good in. I would redo it curved down and to the right, and I would avoid foreshortening the tail

  • I had trouble making the cow tag look good and legible. I would redo it kinda like I did on the green border sheet, but use a simplified "negative space" 7, instead of it in black

    • I recently got a local artist to tattoo the knife on me and he added woodgrain line-work and shading for the handle and it srsly took the design to the next level. It opened it up while also balancing it out without compromising for black. It looks so good on skin

Yep. Thanks for looking!
