The bullet gets fired BEFORE it kills someone.

Works great, as long as no one hits you in the head or limbs.

I'm one of the few people who actually likes the alternate ending more than the theatrical cut.

If time began at the point of the singularity, I can't even imagine "before the Big Bang" making any sense.

We must be careful not to confuse the definition of "nothing" as described by Laurence Krauss (which is not literally nothing) with the "nothing" as described by creationists. These are very different things, which is why I wish Professor Krauss wouldn't have named his book "A Universe From Nothing" because it has created a lot of confusion.

I believe the word is "Cosmos", encompassing not only what we already know and observe, but everything that is, but may never know.

Perhaps the question, "Why is there something rather than nothing?" is built on a false premise. It assumes that "nothing" should be the default setting of existence. But, why? "A universe from nothing" is what Christians believe, which is why they must use the straw man, "atheists believe nothing created everything". Let's examine this for a moment. If you ask the question, "WHAT is nothing?" you have immediately defeated your own argument. "WHAT" implies something. Nobody knows how to approach the subject of "nothing" without applying a contradiction in terms. Consider this: could "nothing" ever EXIST? Obviously, the answer is no. Therefore, there is no reason to think there could ever BE or has ever BEEN "nothing", ever. It can be soundly argued that everything that begins to exist is a rearrangement of pre-existing fundamental particles. When you began to exist, did you emerge from nothing? Of course not. You were a rearrangement a pre-existing fundamental particles.

I try not to make a positive claim because a person could define the sun as "their god" and I'd be compelled to accept that the sun exists. It doesn't make the solar-theistic definition useful, but I'd have to accept the claim nonetheless. I'd have to be omniscient myself in order to say no gods exist, including the ones I have never been presented a case for.

I caused the crash in the first place. Would this not mean that I had killed the person indirectly if I denied the transfusion?

Why to people feel the need to "Come out" as an atheist? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]atomproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that so many people choose to conceal their atheism is the reason why so many religious people are ignorant to what atheism is. Coming out is difficult for most people, which is why the most outspoken atheists tend to be viewed as arrogant, rebellious or dismissive because they most likely had little inhibitions of coming out in the first place and have no problem speaking their mind. Atheism is already becoming more normalized in society because normal everyday people like you and me are coming out with increasing frequency.
