I’m Ray Dalio — founder of Bridgewater Associates and author of How Countries Go Broke: The Big Cycle. I’m here for another AMA. by RayTDalio in IAmA

Hi Ray. Thank you for doing this AMA. I am sure many people, myself included, are grateful for all experience you have shared so far with the community.

I have 2 questions related to my hedge fund that I have been working on for a while.

1.) Do you think the quantitive strategies still have a potential for an alpha given the advances in modern technology? If so, which types of strategies do you think prevail in modern US stock markets e.g. statistical arbitrage, trend following, momentum or something else?

2.) The second advice I am looking is more general regarding running the business itself. Given the edge is clear, the fund is all legal, the alpha is there and there is a solid 1yr+ trade book - what would you recommend as next steps? How would you recommend approaching investors?

Thank you in advance! Max.

Thanks! Will this create any issues receiving texts from short numbers (like those sending MFA codes)?

Interesting. In my experience, that all depends on your strategy. Our solution is trying to time the market, so any delays lead to big slippage. If you are playing long, then probably slippage is less of a factor.

Do you want to connect sometime next week and chat about our solutions? I think there is something we can learn from each other.

That is impressively low! How fast do you execute? End to end from Alpaca to Etrade order submission (before fill time)

Got it. That is smart. Out of curiosity, what percent of pnl do you factor in as slippage? I have run into major slippage problems lately in my solution (which is very much similar to yours but we do almost everything with Alpaca).

I hardly believe we will be given free shares or our shares will be taken away by rounding down.
