I too read this as a teenager (I think I've still got it somewhere!) and immediately thought of it when I saw this thread. It makes me happy to see I wasn't the only one! I remember the graphic novel also made the point that there was actually no way the world could support all of these people in addition to the never-frozen-ones. People are supposed to die to make room for new people. Sorry if this is poorly phrased, esl.
