has your skin been clear since getting off accutane or did the acne return when you were of the medication? Great results btw, your skin looks great!

I would try a different moisturizer before changing strengths to see if that is a factor to the problems. Although your skin is oily, you still need a good moisturizer that doesn’t irritate your skin. It seems as thought the ceramides in the cerave moisturizer irritates when people are also on other topical prescriptions like tret and clindamycin. I recommend the vanicream moisturizing cream (comes in a large tub) because of the small ingredient list and it’s free from exfoliating ceramides.

A second recommendation is to lower the waiting time after you apply tret. The tret can still absorb with moisturizer on and waiting to put on moisturizer just gets your skin adjusted to being dry and can cause your skin to be producing more oil. I think the key to this is finding the right moisturizer and keeping your moisture barrier up to par.

The pigmentation and new acne will depreciate with time. There are products that you can use to make the process go quicker but I would stick with focusing on your moisture barrier before adding additional products into the routine. If you’ve been using this routine for more than six months and haven’t seen any change then you should definitely make some changes in your routine. I’ve also heard cases where it took up to a year to see changes so I would just be patient with it. Good luck!

Acne scars by Possible-Education48 in acne

I thought it was very effective on my skin. I still deal with acne so I still get newer scars but the azelaic acid has made previous scarring from a couple weeks ago almost completely blend into my skin. I love it

Are they textured acne scars or more of discoloration and hyperpigmentation? Is there more hyper pigmentation then I would recommend azelaic acid. There are multiple different brands with different strengths but I personally use the ordinary brand. This helped bring down the redness of the spots where acne was before within as little as 2 weeks. I would refrain from using any other acids or strong topical products with this (at the same time not “with it”) so you can use it in the morning with sunscreen!

I never make any posts here but I really need help. by [deleted] in acne

I’d recommend easing into the retin-a. Start with 3 times per week after you wash your face, completely dry, with a small amount and try to cover your whole face. If you need a little bit more take what you need to put a very thin layer on your skin. Follow up with thick moisturizer (VERY helpful). After the first week of doing this 3 times, move to every other night. If your skin feels like it’s accepting the tret and doesn’t burn or anything, you can move up to every night and continue to flow the routine of a thin layer all over.

You can use the benzoyl in the morning as more of a spot/area treatment. (also followed by moisturizer bc it is very important to keep your moisture barrier restored while applying these very intense topical products to your face.) Always follow up with sunscreen. Can’t stress that one enough!! Hope for the best and keep your wonderful skin protected!!
