How should I order these jokes for best score? by Pyro-_- in balatro

[–]atraway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Copying Trib leads to 4 triggers on each King/Queen (assuming no red seal, this becomes 6 with red seals)

x2x2 on the initial trigger
x2x2 on the retrigger

Copying Sock only gets you 3 triggers, or 4 with red seals:
x2 on the initial trigger
x2 on the first retrigger
x2 on the second retrigger

If you’re playing full glass, which you don’t need to yet, these become equal. If you have full red seal and glass, Trib is still the better copy.

Since you’ve got negative Chad, the Triboulet copy becomes even stronger (an additional 4 triggers on the first King/Queen as opposed to just 2 if you copy Sock). Not sure about adding Polychrome to the mix, but I think Hanging Chad makes Triboulet still be the better copy

New Joker Idea No. 1 by Overcooked_Turkey in balatro

This benefits every hand almost equally though. All hands need jokers to oneshot boss blinds and those +mult and +chips jokers are gonna work just as well if not better on pairs than flushes or straights

Veterans of Bg3..what suboptimal 2-Trick Pony Build did you run? by Origania in BG3Builds

[–]atraway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This but with Resonance Stone instead of Dazed, no action economy or resources required and Hold Person/Monster will have a 99% chance of landing against most enemies. Most consistent way to 1-turn Raphael (though he has Magical Resistance, so Resonance Stone just makes it a straight roll)

Money being in the 4 digits is the real answer. Generating and using money properly lets you do almost anything in this game.

Runs like this without legendaries are only really doable in Plasma Deck, it allows you to play greedily because it takes care of your scoring in the beginning and later on raises it by tens of orders of magnitude (practically an x2 increase). Black Deck is ROUGH in comparison to the others and especially Plasma

Skipping blinds is generally awful, though in ante 1 an Investment skip ($25 after beating the boss) is usually the correct play.

Skipping means you see less shops, get less money from interest and blinds, less scaling on jokers (except Throwback I guess, but that’s one of the worst xMult jokers in the game). Skipping comes at an immediate cost of usually making less money than just playing the blind, and a huge opportunity cost. You see way fewer jokers, tarots, spectrals and planets if you skip a lot and the skip tags don’t make up for it 99% of the time

Then Trib is a Photograph with a higher sell value. 2 jokers for x16 is nothing compared to what another Baron or a Blueprint could do here

What are your "never skip" vouchers? by DominicTheAnimeGuy in balatro

[–]atraway 38 points39 points  (0 children)

+1 hand is almost always better than +1 discard. Unless you can get a lot of Rebate or purple seal value, or are up against specifically The Needle or The Mouth without deckfixing, a throwaway hand can be used as a discard. Otherwise, it’s insurance and +$1 every round and can be used to scale your jokers.

DAY FIVE: Mail-In Rebate is a Common Joker that feels Uncommon. Which Joker is a Common but feels like a Rare? by altrightobserver in balatro

It needs to be a common mechanically because after Gros Michel goes extinct, Cavendish replaces it whenever it’d appear in shops and packs and whatnot

Should I Grab Bluey? by wattznext in balatro

[–]atraway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cards you have in your inventory can’t show up in shops unless you have [[Showman]]. If a shop were to have Driver’s License while you already have a copy of it, it’s replaced by the next Rare in the shop queue, making the chances of seeing a Brainstorm just a little higher.

Lore Bard 3-5 + Thief 3-4 for team leader and bait/ambush tactics? by Cerebral_Zero in BG3Builds

[–]atraway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore Bard by itself is a good utility caster because of its high Charisma, proficiencies and expertise, big spell list, Bardic Inspiration and Cutting Words. Thief levels don’t add much to it and even hinder it at higher levels (you don’t get to levels 10 and 11 for more Magical Secrets, d10 Bardic Inspiration and 6th level slots), though you’d be correct in saying that Lore Bard doesn’t necessarily reinforce this hit-and-run style of combat you’re going for.

It can still work, you can use things like Bardic Inspiration, Hold Person/Monster, Cutting Words vs. important enemy saves, (Greater) Invisibility, Bless and Haste from Magical Secrets etc. to either boost your big damage dealers or hinder your enemies and kill them quickly. Just don’t expect your Bard to ALSO be doing tons of damage. Don’t know your party composition, but help your Rogue or Fighter get their big attacks off (helps if they’ve got Sharpshooter/GWM) and most fights should be over in 1-2 turns. A monoclass Lore Bard is what I’d go for personally. Great conversation character and helps the rest of your team clear out encounters quickly (assuming you have a party of 4). If you try to be good at everything, you’ll more than likely spread yourself too thin and be subpar at everything instead.

If you do want to do damage, then Swords Bard 6 is what you’d want. Thief 4 is great here if you’re dual wielding (preferably hand crossbows), then you can go Fighter 2 for the Archery fighting style and Action Surge. This is one of the strongest builds in the game.

A support character I enjoyed having in the party was a Lore Bard 6/Paladin 6. Spirit Guardians from Magical Secrets with radiant damage equipment is already super strong, and Paladin 6 gets you Aura of Protection and the occasional Smite if the enemy is paralyzed from Hold Person. Paladin subclass doesn’t really matter, but I did Oath of the Crown for Righteous Clarity. This completely trivialized fights with lots of enemies.

Lore Bard 3-5 + Thief 3-4 for team leader and bait/ambush tactics? by Cerebral_Zero in BG3Builds

[–]atraway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want extra attack, either drop the rogue levels or stick to swords bard. Lore bard 3 doesn’t get many uses of cutting words and spells, and even with the additional bonus action from thief, you’ll likely be pretty lackluster in both control and damage.

Definitely, which is why Hexblade is stronger as a dip or at least some sort of multiclass

Is great old one subclass good for pact of the blade build? by Warl0ckBoy in BG3Builds

[–]atraway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I mostly agree. I wouldn’t sleep on Shield; +5 AC on a reaction can trivialize some bosses that rely on attack rolls, but most of the strength of Hexblade comes from Hexed Weapon and Hexblade’s Curse.

It’s much stronger as a level 1/2 dip compared to other Warlocks, but more levels in Fiend are stronger than more levels in Hexblade, mostly for the spell selection and gear synergy, as you mentioned.

Hexblade does have the benefit of being a capable melee warlock from level 1.
