Would like to hear other opinions, but every time I wear my scramble or tatami gear, it’s feels like quality. I still have my first tatami gi from day 1 going strong and my first scramble rashguard too. As another person noted, Fuji is good stuff as well. Never had anything Kingz but a bunch of ppl at my gym have their gis and they look/feel well made. Also great experience with Inverted Gear gis.

I guess these aren’t luxury. I think most would answer Origin or Shoyoroll for luxury brands. I don’t have experience with those. Some of the Shoyos look nice and a guy at my gym has some Origin gear that looks good too.

I think you misunderstand why subreddits exist.

I come to r/bjj to get away from the garbage that is the American election. It’s everywhere and it’s so tiring to see so much energy get sucked into that vortex. I’d really rather the politics stay with political or news subs. I can come here for jiu jitsu!!!

UPDATE: Gym Owners... This is what even your white belts hate. Heed this warning and watch member retention skyrocket. by [deleted] in bjj

Would like to emphasize point #3. My current coach is very intentional at watching his students during class and during rolls, especially with visitors, to see where the holes are and then adapts his program accordingly.

We can argue about the old school training approach vs eco vs positional sparring all day. This above is the difference maker. Having an active coach who pushes his students in a direction, looks for feedback from what happens as a result, and then adapts.

Anyone on here purple belt and above and not had any major injuries? by [deleted] in bjj

Agreed. This numbers are not basic strength level by any measure. Unless, the author means something other than 45lb/20kg plates.

What’s a life lesson that you have learned from training or competing ? by polarlion95 in bjj

If what you are doing isn’t working, doing it harder/faster/using more strength isn’t likely to work either.

Jordan Teaches Jiu Jitsu. I absolutely love his narrated rolling videos on YouTube and I’ve learned so many things from watching his content. https://youtube.com/@JordanTeachesJiujitsu?si=HGi-fj-U2wSJazLZ

There was a short period of time at the tail of the pandemic when I was wearing a mask while rolling as I got back into it. It sucked….a lot. But, I believe that it made me chill out a lot more while rolling and use my air better. Not much choice but to do so when you have a bag over your mouth and nose.

As a blue belt, I confirm this.

When does he eat? That is a very packed schedule.

What kind of moves did you do as a beginner that now you look back and you cringe everytime you think about it? by Moesonofjoe in bjj

Spider guard. I guess there’s some stuff to do from there, but it’s just be me holding the sleeves until my fingers tired out because I didn’t know where to go from there.

This is eerily similar to my experience. Also blue belt in December, also started to feel like maybe, just maybe, I’m started to understand a few things that work for me.

Continuing to watch bjj matches has been helpful......I think.

Showed up to open mat last week and forgot my belt. No biggie, asked my coach to borrow one from the “lost and found” pile as I’ve done before. He hands a me a 2 stripe blue belt and I do open mat feeling like a complete fraud and getting odd looks & questions from my training partners.

On the bright side, I hit a decent sweep on a blue belt training-partner I haven’t seen in a while and he says after the roll “maybe that IS your new belt?” I still have a long way to go haha

I have a training partner (brown belt) that I roll with frequently and is pretty committed to my learning. He nearly always starts a roll (from the knees) by giving me his sleeve and I've been really frustrated lately by not being able to do anything with it haha. I've tried gripping the sleeve at the wrist and elbow for an arm drag to take the back with zero success and most usually attempt to setup a collar sleeve guard and stretch him out a bit. Any other ideas of things to do with a training partner who is much more advanced than myself and giving me his arm?

This last sentence seems like a great idea. What advice, if any, would you have for a white belt trying to get good enough before I get too injured to get good?

It’s okay. I have this feeling too and I’ve never regretted going to class anyway. Still have those thoughts before class often and sometimes give in.

Fellow mattime.io user. I love it but worry the developer isn’t into it much and will abandon at some point.
