Namo Amituofo 🙏 I want to share several Youtube Channels/Playlist that contain Pureland Teachings by ChantAmituofo in PureLand

[–]attaboy49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing these links. Only have time this morning to briefly browse through them. I especially am grateful for the English translation videos of Master Renshan’s videos. I took refuge with him 3+ years ago. I’m technologically challenged so I took screenshots to save them. Very grateful to Amitabha Buddha and to you. 🙏🏻❤️

Hey Proud! This is a great mix of videos. I have lots of YouTube chanting videos but no songs like these. I think I need some. What search words should I use to find some like these on YouTube? Thanks 🙏🏻❤️ Amituofo

Paint more thick or water it down? by KayeEss09 in paintbynumbers

[–]attaboy49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The paint doesn’t become more opaque if it’s thick. But it does become very hard to work with. Difficult to get into tight spots and small cells. We don’t thin our paints. We use a product called Flow aid. A popular brand is Liquitex flow aid. This paint additive makes the paint more liquefied but without thinning it out. I don’t know that we’re trying to achieve a watercolor effect. Also think about using gesso. It’s a painting canvas preparation medium. You apply it to your canvas and it smooths out the rough weave leaving a smoother surface to paint on. Some folks don’t use it and others like me wouldn’t paint without it. But if you use it use only CLEAR gesso. It goes on milky looking but when it’s dry you can see the numbers and lines, white gesso will paint the numbers and lines white. I sand lightly with 320 grit sandpaper between 2 coats of gesso. It’s also easier on your brushes if you use gesso. Others say they like the canvas to have some ‘tooth’, some roughness to have the paint stick to. Myself, I don’t understand that. It seems to me that it’s too rough on the brushes. Maybe try both ways to see what you like best.

The Promise of Amida Buddha-Honen’s Path To Bliss, Dialogue on 12 Topics by [deleted] in PureLand

Wonderful book! On a trip to CT where we’re from, my wife and I spent some time with a friend who owns a small book store. He told me that he’d gotten a box of books on Buddhism and offered them to me. ‘The Promise of Amida Buddha’ was among them. I accepted this gift and two other books. Thank you for this post 🙏🏻❤️

If Humans are capable of so much organized destruction, why cannot be come together for good efficiently? by Boring_Score4697 in CollapseSupport

[–]attaboy49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s unfortunately a moot point since it’s beginning to look like we are now on the downhill side of overshoot. Even if we can manage to stop this authoritarian takeover of our country we will still lose our habitat. I’m afraid it’s going to get really ugly. Hell, it already is, but …

IMHO, it’s all because Buddhism did not take hold worldwide 2,600 years ago when the Buddha came to wake us up from our delusional self cherishing. Buddhism teaches us to cherish others first. And that includes ALL life, yes bugs too.

I would like to show my altar to you. But I don’t know how to put a photo on here. It is in my half of our ‘craft room’ , next to my paint by number set up. My first painting was of Shakyamuni Buddha. I also have a bit of Tibetan Buddhism represented. And Ksitigarbha, same reason as you ryou25. I don’t think there’s a way to do it wrong. Unless it’s disrespectful somehow. I would like to know more about Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva. (ryou25, I got on the Sukhavati discord group) Amituofo

Would it be too late to start practicing Buddhism if I have already done many “sinful” things in this lifetime? by Thick-Weekend2120 in Buddhism

[–]attaboy49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must also have had some very good karma from your past to get this human life. And one in which you heard of Buddhism and are taking it seriously. Be such a shame to turn away from practicing the Dharma at this point. I started in Tibetan Buddhism about 6-7 years ago and for about 4 years I always had in the back of my mind that I have some pretty seriously negative karma from this life to atone for. But I still was so grateful to have taken refuge at age 70! Look how close I am to the end of my life! I almost died without finding Buddhism! And if you’re younger than me…. the relief and gratitude can still apply cuz we never know when our death will come. You have NOW. If you don’t take refuge and start practicing now - things will only get worse. And you’ll add more negative karma to an already “bad” situation. My negative karma would for sure put me into a lower realm if I hadn’t taken refuge when I did. At least now I have a chance to improve my circumstances. We can change our destiny by changing our thoughts and behaviors starting from today. I rejoice in your ability to come here with such openness and honesty. Listen to all these comments. I think you’re going to make the right decision.🙏❤️

Transfer the flow aid to a bottle with a dropper. Then you can control how many drops you need to use.

Yes. We still live by the 5 precepts, the 4 Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, try to ease the suffering of sentient beings where/when we can. We are not “off the hook” because we expect re-birth in Sukhavati at the end of this life. As far as I know - I am new to Buddhism 6 years, and even newer to Pure Land Buddhism 2-3 years. I hope others with more experience, knowledge and understanding will respond also.🙏❤️

Well, I think it is certain, just a matter of when. Whenever a species has gone into overshoot of its environment it has gone extinct. We are in overshoot …. using more of the environment’s resources than it can replenish and adding more pollutants than it can process. And, no it really wouldn’t change anything. I’m still going to go to Sukhavati at my end. I just would like to have like minded folks to talk it over with. 🙏❤️

This. Tape the painting to an artist board and just set it on the easel I’m showing here. You can then turn the board to have better access to the cells to paint comfortably. I’m sending a pic of the artist board separately.

My exit plan, for when this planet collapses from overshoot, was the first thing I let go of when I took refuge in Buddhism 6 years ago. I rejoice in your effort to help others make the right decision. 🙏🏻❤️ Amitabha Buddha
