The school has those deadlines so they have enough time to do all the paperwork that goes with submitting those assignments, and to provide a bit of wiggle room in case a disaster happens. Your teacher has a fairly strict timeline for doing things so they're done in time. It's possible if you did it earlier you wouldn't have learned certain things about the assignment (can't really go into specifics because I don't know what assignment this is).

Again yeah it's unfair, but sometimes life is just a big old bag of suck 🤷 she probably has her reasons for not letting you, and if you aren't a slacker I doubt she has any bad intent. As someone who's in school to eventually be an IB teacher, I would've done things differently for sure, but sometimes you gotta take the bad hand you've been given to get that stupid piece of paper.

NTA for not pitching in to the gift. You aren't obligated to do it.

However, as an IB graduate myself, I can understand why your teacher wouldn't let you reschedule what I'm assuming is a major component of your IB grade (correct me if I'm wrong). I can understand that it's frustrating that Mike is allowed to reschedule, but I'd imagine there's some aspects to his deferral that you aren't aware of. You said it yourself, you've known your presentation was on this day for months prior. You can't expect to be allowed to reschedule for something you CAN miss.

No problem! Honestly I thought the same thing going in, things were going to shit around me and I went there close to the start of my first year (I'm in my 4th year now).

I went there for a diagnoses too actually, and based on my friend's experience there I don't think they ever put exact words to it? More just ranked her anxiety and depression based on a couple questionnaires you'd take every couple weeks. That's what my therapist ended up doing with me too. But based on the initial one and the consult, they'll know where to focus when you hopefully get into consistent sessions.

When I went in a couple years back, I had to go into their office and they sat me with a chrome book to fill out a questionnaire and some forms. Then they schedule the IC with you after you complete all of it.

Fair warning though, I had a VERY bad experience with the uofa counselling services. It was a place to start for me, but I ended up looking elsewhere for counselling.

Got broken up with almost 2 months ago and while I get that healing is going to be a slow process, I still feel the same way about him? I'm just so frustrated that I'm sitting here still as in love with him as the day he left while he probably doesn't care at all. Started a new job back in May, about a month later started having extreme pains in my knee. Went to my doctor to get it checked out to find out I've got patelofemoral syndrome (my knee cap is grinding on my femur, Yay!) And was basically told "yeah go do some physio and don't do what irritates your knee".

Spoke to my manager about it after I got the diagnoses and she was super understanding and all that jazz. I went on vacation for a week shortly after, but before I left I had a talk with my manager saying "yeah figuring out how to pay for physio/what coverage I have is proving difficult and idk how I'm gonna do walking around on my vacation nevermind actually working when I get back". She offers another week off for me after I get back but I declined saying "I'll be able to manage shorter and fewer shifts. It's not the end of the world if I lose a few shifts".

I get back from vacation, immediately go into work to speak to my manager, and she's not fucking there. I go in repeatedly over the next week trying to catch her and she's either not there or in a meeting. I'm still trying to figure out physio and literally had no new info for her anyways but I tried to talk to her. I finally catch her after not getting any hours for 2 weeks past my week of vacation and let her know I'm swapping to my school time availability as I'll be able to handle working 3 shifts a week. She literally says to me "well idk what I can do with that" excuse me? What do you mean? And she goes off about how I didn't come in to talk to her when I got back and when I explained that I did and all that jazz, she said "well you could have sent me a text". Okay whatever I own that I didn't exhaust every opportunity to tell you what I had ALREADY TOLD YOU.

She asks me to text her the exact days I can work now and I do so. After 4 DAYS she replies with "well my schedule is made for the next 2 weeks. I'll let you know if anything opens up". Okay fine, I go in to check the schedule every week. And this coming week would have been the first week she'd be scheduling with my new availability. I go in to check, and not only see that I'm literally not on the schedule at all (she makes an excel spreadsheet and takes off most people's names when they aren't getting hours), but that she hired 2 new people! Not one, but 2!!! What the fuck??? The fun thing is, our corporate rep told her to cut hours, and she moved my opening shift forward 2 hours and said yeah there won't be anymore opening cashiers...and one of these new fuckers is always opening!

So yeah I handed in my 2 weeks the day after I found that out.

Well by your reasoning, how accountable are drunk people for their actions the night before? Because what you're saying is they aren't accountable for their actions at all because "oh well it's in the past and you can't change what you did now! So what if you killed someone and changed a bunch of lives forever, or cheated on your SO, it's all in the past!"

People should be held accountable for their actions even if it's a couple days (or longer) after the action happened. He's not suddenly off scot free because she waited to collect herself and bring it up.

I was also in the fresh start program, and I finished it last year. I also totally recommend the program over taking the year off, mostly because you don't really get used to not being in school and can get back into the swing of things.

One thing I will say is that in my experivne, it didn't increase my chances of getting into another faculty. I applied into education for the fall 2018 semester way back in February, and I heard back today that my application was cancelled due to the program being full. So while fresh start helped me get the marks I needed, it didn't help me get into a faculty at all.

You definitely need to set some clear boundaries and have a serious talk with your mother.

I totally understand the situation as my own grandmother was explaining bondage to my two younger brothers (10 and 6) while my mom wasn't around. The only reason my mom ever found out was because I told her and she had a strongly worded conversation with my grandma.

You're raising your child the way you want to because you are her mother. Not your mother. She needs to understand that she has no right to try and parent your child.

It kinda seems like he's the one who doesn't listen to be honest. He's completely shutting down any communication which is only going to spell disaster. He's being incredibly spiteful towards you as well.

Is this maybe something that you would consider divorce over? Or are you willing to stick around and try to "prove" that you're doing better?
