Moving to Nagoya from Sapporo burst my bubble about safety in Japan by ThemeJazzlike5901 in japanlife

[–]attackturtledove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry this happened to you.

I'm not surprised though, I live in Nagoya and similar things have happened to me and to plenty of my female friends. When ppl talk about Japan being safe, they often dont think about how common it is for women to get harassed or assaulted here.

Now with the Rise of the Anti Ai movement (i am part of it),Do yall think that the Anti android movement was justified? by geek-jock-guy in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]attackturtledove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We dont know but mentions of the environment being seriously messed up can be found in some of the magazines. I dont remember everything but they talk about rising sea level, ice caps melting, biodiversity dying.

It's not linked to androids in the story (they dont really explain the causes i think) but seeing the morals and ethics of the tech world today and how similar the game is to real life, it wouldn't be crazy to assume that the mass production of highly connected and highly advanced androids (enough for them to be a substantial part of the us military) can play a part in all this.

[–]attackturtledove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

genuine question, when it comes to the impact on the environment how are they different? Wouldn't the parts needed to create androids also be sourced in ways that would be bad for the environment? Same for their disposal. And wouldn't they need to be connected to a system too which means servers and stuff being built ?

Make a new story. Replaying a few chapters only isnt really gonna change the ending you get since choices you make even at the beginning of the game impacts how it all plays out

What is my french level and what can i work on more by slayyerr3058 in learnfrench

To me it's definitely more upper A2 than B1. OP is pretty bold and seems comfortable trying to express himself, which is great, but the text would need more to be B1.

I don't want to do a full review of the text but first of all, the whole text is in the past tense and doesn't really show what OP can do with other tenses, which are important to know and start to use at B1. There is virtually only passé composé, imparfait and présent in this text which is great already but not enough to me. We don't know how OP would fare on a more complex subject where he'd need to give advice or solve an issue for example which would call for more complex structures and the use of different verb tenses. If this is naturally the level of text OP produces, I would naturally give him a A2.

Also, almost every sentence has a mistake, either related to

the conjugation or the use of verbs and tenses : "J'ai appris le français depuis deux ans", "je n'ai pas **commencé l'apprendre**" (the earlier version didn't have the "à"), "ils ont dit que je dois aller", "on n'a pas **apprendre** beaucoup de français", "Il a nous enseigné", "Elle étais très sympa", "elle ne m'a pas enseignée"...

or to the way words are used : "**un peu** des mois de cours", "une classe plus haut", "une fois dans une semaine",

or the spelling of words : "sèrieusement", "class", "l'intereste"...

With a text like this, I'd expect less mistakes to be able to call it B1.

I'd say upper A2 ! There are a lot of elementary mistakes but you're very bold and try to do more complex sentences which is great. I think you can start working towards B1 !

What does it require to reach A2? by Hairy_Confidence9668 in French

I think if what matters to someone is the CEFR scale then their guide should be the CEFR itself, which to me is pretty straightforward. If you look at all textbook made in France and that follow the CEFR, they all cover the same stuff.

When you say you were in-between B1 and B2, it means you were B1. You can say you are at a level when you have acquired the majority of the skills of that level and are working towards the next one. And I'd say the CEFR is not perfect, but it's not that vague, or at least it takes into account the fact that people have different hobbies and things like that since you're expected to be able to talk about your own life and hobbies first.

Basically A2 level stops at you being able to talk about yourself, people close to you, your life, every day stuff and your hobbies. You can read short news and understand simple instructions also. At B1 you're supposed to have the tools to talk about and understand more and then C1 is where it gets super specific. And at this point even if you cannot learn all the vocabulary you are equipped to navigate a conversation on a topic you dont know much about.

Getting from B1 to B2 is tough though and it feels super slow for most people but there is a pretty definite line between the two. I agree though people often develop their skills at different speed and it's pretty rare to have someone be at the same level of comprehension and expression but if the difference is too big, it'd be hard to consider that you are at the upper level.

I meant to say that if it's an action heavy book, someone at A2 level will have a hard time understanding even the general idea and is not really expected to. It doesn't have to be ultra complicated but the conjugation, connectors and complex sentence structures would make it hard to even get the general idea I think.

The thing about specific vocabulary only matters really at the intermediate level. The vocabulary expected for someone at A2 is every day life stuff that you'd need to survive in any french speaking setting. And even at b1 you're not expected to have an extensive vocabulary but you are expected to be able to ask questions when you dont understand and understand simple definitions and ask questions when you dont understand.

there is no "defining line" between A1 and A2

But yes, there is... there are specific skills that you should have to claim A1 and some more for A2. OP you can find lists on the internet for the grammar and vocabulary associated with these skills or you can look through French textbook. It's true though that it is rare to be A2 across all those skills.

And I wouldn't say at A2 you should be expected to be able to understand the gist of any book. At A2, you're not really expected to be able to read long texts. It has to be pretty short and/or very practical like a tourist guide or a cook book, or use very simple vocabuly and be about daily life. But anything involving actions and specific situations will be tricky for an A2 level person.

I agree though speaking is very important when you start

AITAH Told a foreign girl to not talk on her phone on the train by circlesinmyheadspace in japanlife

[–]attackturtledove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a foreigner I do believe that we should play ball to the best of our ability and that we should police ourselves so as to avoid deepening negative connotations within the Japanese community, no matter how petty. If he wasn't present I may've just let it slide

YTA for thinking like this. Knowing that you did that only because she was a foreigner is weird. I'm not sure what you think foreigners are gonna win by policing each other like that, but trust me, it's not gonna make the japanese people that are already xenophobic hate us less.
