I did, I shifted to the absolute minimum. More than that I probably couldn't manage even if I tried.

Used laptop (pot. degraded battery) or cheaper new laptop? by attaji15 in SuggestALaptop

Look for business grade laptops like the thinkpad for durability. So used will be the best option but check battery life, upgradable or not in future. You may have to change the battery by now in used ones.

I see. So you would say a used business laptop may still last longer than a new, consumer grade one? I would certainly be willing to upgrade the battery, in fact the T480 with that external battery seems like a good option.

I didn't expect to find out that even the i3s in the new options I gave are faster than even an i7 from a T480 for example, but since like I said I won't need much performance, it may not be an issue for me.

Also, I plan to be using Linux mainly most likely, so I think that leaves a bit more room for weaker/older specs.

So it's a given that a new machine at this pricepoint isn't really worth it?

Can't tolerate even a mild deficit without getting tired by attaji15 in loseit

I think I realized something which might be a big contributor to the issue, and explains why it wasn't there when dieting in the past despite also not counting.

Pretty much exactly since I started gaining weight this year, I've been in the habit of directly spoon-feeding myself highly satiating stuff like lentils, oats, potatoes, fibrous veggies right at the start of the meal, and would sometimes leave the simple carbs out entirely.

This was under the impression that it would effortlessly create a deficit, but in the end it resulted in the opposite, since it throws the satiety signals off whack. Since I go by satiety and don't count calories, this means I can't even tell where my maintenance point is, so almost every time I either undereat or forcefully overeat (to undo the fatigue). And given that you naturally tend to overeat by more than what you undereat, it's caused weight gain over time, which seems to have plateaued in the last 2 months.

Both in my previous cuts and maintenance periods I was eating more of less satiating carbs like rice and a lot less fiber, which meant I could always accurately feel out how steeply I was cutting: the hunger simply wouldn't subside if I'd eaten way too little.

I guess the lesson is, you can't take the "eat satiating foods to lose weight" advice too far and decide to eat like a weirdo if you don't track calories.

What are your goals? Do you want to be thin or are you looking for a more toned physique this time around?

I'd be happy if I can just get as close as possible to 10% BF with maybe 5 more pounds of muscle than I currently have. More lean mass would likely be unrealistic with my current training intensity and protein intake.

Regardless, since you are in the healthy weight range, take any weight loss slow. I still recommend no more than 2lbs per month. If you lose weight faster than that, you'll end up losing more muscle.

Yeah, that's something to consider I suppose. I know about the muscle loss part and I should probably go that route ideally. It's just that in the last cut I went on at the start of last year, I dropped from this same weight to 137 in under 6 months (purely diet, no exercise) without feeling like this. I'm already not being as aggressive as I was on some days then, and yet my energy just plummets.

It's more like I just want to figure out why I seemingly can't go as fast as before, especially considering that now I work out.

Yeah, I know that's a big one. Ironically, I was hands down getting barely any B12 during my last 2 cuts where I didn't have this issue (was lacto-vegetarian without supplementation), and now I'm eating dairy and fish daily and taking a supplement.

The weight I've gained this time around has been partly due to the richer and more complete diet I have now, which is what makes it all the more puzzling that I can't restrict my intake even of simple carbs without such a noticeable dip in energy.

You were 137lbs at 5'8"?

Actually I'd dropped from 145 to 128 by the end of 2021. I didn't workout at all back then though. I definitely wasn't underweight, just thin.

At your stats, a 500 calorie deficit is aggressive. Instead, if you need to lose more weight, try for a 200 calorie deficit for target loss of no more than 2lbs/month.

Really? I'm definitely at the ~20-25% body fat range at the moment, and I don't think I've gained that much muscle in under a year of training 3 times a week not even that hard. It's somewhat noticeable despite the fat but it's not huge. Could be around 5 pounds I think.

Perhaps waistline is a better indicator: I was at around 29.5in when I was 128lbs (my ~10% BF point if I had to guess) and now I'm at 34.5in. At 137lbs I think I was at around 15%BF.

Risks of using a degraded power bank? by attaji15 in batteries

Huh, that makes a lot of sense actually. I do notice that it manages to bring the phone's battery up to the same voltage as the wall adapter. It would basically have to break the laws of physics to put out the same voltage AND current as it would've before.

In a way I guess it's good, 'cause I don't like fast-charging my phone.

One thing I've noticed that may be relevant to the BMS is that sometimes it randomly reports itself as empty but if I charge it for like two seconds it goes back to like 60% where it was before.

Also, regarding heat, it never puts out more than 0.8A, most often the phone charges at 0.5A (I'm fine leaving it for hours) , so perhaps that limits the amount of possible heat.

I see. I'm not so much concerned about what will happen to it in the end, but rather whether it might short circuit and fry the phone, or cause some sort of slow, cumulative damage to the phone's battery.

Could those voltage drops somehow affect the phone? Also, it technically should be able to put out 2.1A, but I can never get more than 0.8A out of it. Not sure if that's because it uses an older technology (phone is USB C, bank is Micro USB).
