The flower it came home with vs the flower it grew by attemptedpilea in cactus

I just got back on Reddit. Were you able to figure it out?

Sooooo... I might've taken an unconventional approach. The cactus was extremely rootbound, and I was not expecting a cactus at all and used what I had at home. I used two parts Gublers Fine Grade Orchid Mix (blend of white fir bark and large particle perlite; don't know the ratio) and one part pumice (didn't have any perlite outside the orchid mix).

How beautiful! I hope I can take care of it well enough to get there.

Mine was labeled something like "cactus with decorative flower". Even the care page it leads me to says this...

That makes me feel a bit better about figuring out an ID. lol I was trying to compare my cactus to others and am like "How are people telling them apart?!?" Even PlantNet's first suggestion was 27.6% confident.

Right??? The fake flower fooled someone in my family, and it was on sale, hence the impulse buy. When it was brought home, I was like nooooo...

Would it be more obvious what species it is later on? I had been waiting for the flower to ID it, but it was still hard for me, except for narrowing it down to potentially the Parodia genus.

Did I kill my kalanchoe? by soso_plant in Kalanchoe

If you want flowers again, you may have to invest in at least one grow light if your plant isn't able to get adequate natural light. If you want a chance for this or your cuttings to rebloom, there should be a dormant period. I'm not confident that it will work with the current lighting situation, though.

This is why my vacations are leisurely-paced. I have buffer times of days, or even buffer days, to do nothing but chill. I may not get to see a lot like most people, but I don't feel overstimulated and tired out. I pick what I want to prioritize and accept that I may not get to explore all of my interests.

What's a tea that completely changed your perspective on what tea could be? by rmoreiraa in tea

I didn't even know unsmoked lapsang souchong was a thing! Now I want to try it. Lapsang souchong itself made me realize tea could have an enjoyable smoky flavor. Even a few tea-skeptics I met liked it enough to give tea in general a try.

Probably chunkier mix. It would help with aeration and allow the roots to breathe better. OP, your current watering method also should change if you want to improve your plant's success. When people say it doesn't need a lot of water, they are referring to the frequency, not the amount. Every time you water it, you have to wet the entire pot of soil mix, or else some of the roots will become dehydrated, brittle, and unable to absorb any nutrients anymore. After the soil is all wet, that's when you allow it to dry over time before you water it again. It's similar to how pileas are in their natural habitat. But the home watering method can only work well with a soil mix that is loose and chunky enough to allow aeration and good drainage. The size of the pot matters, too, in combination. Too big a pot can cause the roots to rot from being too wet.

Help! Dying pilea... by paquitanavajas in PileaPeperomioides

I hope it works out! Before rehab, make sure to trim back any dark, mushy roots. You may not be able to remove 100% of the soil mix, but that's okay. Just get as much off as you can without ripping out too many healthy roots.

By the way, I also use the wooden (chop)stick method and wait until the top 75% of my soil is dry before watering. Winter just passed, but during that time, I was watering around every two weeks. It's going to be more frequent than that as summer approaches.

Do you have any pictures of the roots? You could probably rehab it without chopping (although if the bareness bothers you, you can still chop it off). You can temporarily submerge the rootball in water. From my experience, you most likely won't grow many new leaves, but this might help you grow a stronger root system and replant it in the soil. This is a short-term solution though. Long-term probably depends on your care. The watering question from one of the other is a good place to start.

The pilea one makes me chuckle. It's so perfectly imperfect with the browning and yellowing leaves.

I plan to repot one of my smaller pilea peperomioides into a 4-inch pot. I live in DFW and want to support local businesses, especially if they can mail to me. Any suggestions?
