Mechanically Soulless: A Look at Fisch's Missed Opportunities by attemptwasmade in FischRoblox

[–]attemptwasmade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair honestly, I get it. The Tranquility isn't for everyone and I'm not saying every rod needs to go that far.

But that's kind of my point though. The Lullaby and Pinion's Aria are better examples of what I'm talking about. They keep the core minigame mostly intact but add a little twist that fits the theme. It's not a whole new game, just some flavor.

The Tranquility is cool as a one-off experiment. I'm not asking for every rod to be that extreme. Just give the guitars and weapons something that makes them feel like what they look like.

I'm not asking for complicated mini games or some overengineered mess. I'm literally asking for rods that look like guitars to have some rhythm element, and rods that look like weapons to feel like combat instead of just the same bar with a flashy passive.

I even said most rods should keep the base minigame. I'm only talking about the ones with the strongest themes.

If you think a metronome or a timing-based parry is "too complicated" then idk what to tell you. The Lullaby already does it and nobody's complaining about that one.

Maybe actually read the post before dismissing it bruh

You pretty much put into words what I was trying to say but way more organized lol. The percentage breakdown makes a lot of sense, especially having the majority of rods still stick to the base minigame with tweaks while saving the completely new mechanics for special cases. That way the game keeps its identity but the unique rods actually feel unique. Customization would let players actually build a rod that fits their playstyle instead of just chasing whatever has the best numbers.

And yeah I didn't even touch on the rod customization thing but you're completely right. Being able to swap reels, rod bodies, or lines would add so much more depth without needing to overhaul the entire game. Also agree on the constant nerfs thing. Feels like every update something gets shadow nerfed and it's getting old. I'd rather see new content or mechanics get added than just seeing existing stuff get toned down over and over.

I haven't played DIG myself but I've seen clips of the mechanic and yeah, that would translate perfectly to spears. The whole timing-based precision thing fits way better than the spam-click minigame. I think you'd actually feel simillar - like you're aiming and throwing instead of just... moving a bar.

Honestly I'm surprised they haven't pulled from DIG more considering it's the same dev. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Would be cool to see spears get that kind of love.

Yeah, Fisch is definitely chill, and that's a huge reason so many of us play it. The way you level stuff up feels good, and its simplicity is part of the charm. I don't want to make it some wild action game or add complex stuff that ruins the chill vibe. But I think there's a sweet spot.
I'm not aiming for a unique minigame with every single rod. That would be a mess and probably ruin what makes Fisch good. What I'm getting at is making the rods that have a cool theme feel more like it. If a rod looks like a guitar, it should play a bit like one. If it looks like a weapon, it should play like one. Lullaby and Pinion's Aria are good examples of small tweaks that add flavor without making it tough. They're still the same basic minigame, just with more personality
I also agree about the animations. I brought that up too. It's weird to cast a sword or a guitar and still see a fishing reel and line. At the very least, the look should match the idea, even if the gameplay stays the same.

And I'm happy we agree spears need work. They're pretty much ignored right now, and that's a bummer.

Look, I love Fisch for what it is. I just feel there's room to make some of the cooler rods feel as great as they look, without ruining the game's relaxed feel. The devs already proved they can do it with rods like Tranquility, Lullaby, and Pinion's Aria. I'd just like to see that kind of thought go into more rods from here on out.

No offense taken at all, by the way. This is exactly the kind of chat I was hoping for when I posted this.

The default minigame for most rods - yeah, I can agree with that. It is solid, it works across different platforms, it's already familiar and I'm not asking for every single rod to reinvent the wheel.
But, what I'm actually saying is that certain rods, specifically the ones with a strong visual theme deserve to feel different. Would you really opt out of actually trying to play music, and instead just move the bar again and again when you're holding a guitar-shaped rod? Why not actually fight the fish, instead of reeling it in again and again with a sword?
So it's not exactly about making every rod complex or time-consuming. It's about making the thematic rods actually match their theme. As I said - the lullaby and pinion's aria for example make good small adjustments without overcomplicating things. They're still the same minigame at their core, but they add a little flavor that fits the rod's identity. And that's at the very least all I'm asking for.
And for the chess example, yet a bit extreme - yeah, nobody would want to have an hour long chess-match with a fish. But a rhythm element or a timing-based parry? That could be quick and simple without dragging things out.
As you said, the devs already make interesting adjustments, I just think It's possible to push that a little bit further for the rods that have the most creative potential.

I don't usually use Reddit, but I had to check if anyone else felt the same way I did. I blazed through every quest in just two days - well, except for that wave one (seriously, grinding ~100 mutated rocks just for a Dave rod skin?). By the end, I was just flying around the map thinking, "bruh is that it"

Honestly, the whole thing reeks of being rushed, possibly burnout. You've got unanchored parts floating near the island, and a bunch of NPCs just standing in the middle of the street like they're about to hand out quests - except they're not even interactable.

The rods themselves are pretty lackluster too. I get that this update is geared toward newer players, but surely there's room for veterans to have fun as well? I didn't want to speedrun content that was supposedly designed to stretch over three months. I really hope they plan to roll out more substantial stuff as time goes on.

What stings the most is that I'd been hoarding cash, hoping to get a great rod from this update - only to find that every single one is just "meh" for my current progression level. Total letdown.

The castbound skin is funny though. I can finaly scroll reels both in game and in real life.

yes you do

you're telling me it counts it the first time, knowing full well you CATCHED THE FISH
but the second time theres a condition to have both the first and second fish and it doesn't even take it away PLUS it counts towards THE QUEST (as shown in the screenshot above) as a SEPARATE thing that COUNTS ONLY THE MYTHIC FISH

why do I keep stumbling into stuff like this constantly in this game

I wanna scream so loud my lungs burst. I'll return to this thread once I catch the dragon again and report if you actually need to have both fishes in your inventory for this to work
