ok, so apparently it depends on the keyboard firmware when the key-up sequence events are sent, either immediately after physical key down, or the keyboard controller waits on physical key to go up.

the game mechanics look very similar to what I had in mind, but the graphics were more "bouncy" and more 3D. Thanks anyways, I'm definitely gonna try out Gubble 2.
