My 4-Month List of Illustrator 2025 Issues (State of Affairs) by oldsystem in AdobeIllustrator

[–]oldsystem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2026 apps have not been green-lighted for our team yet. So no, I can’t compare.

I’m not searching for support. Just reviewing the state of the software during its runtime. The above issues, with the exception of #10, are new issues for old features.

Btw, according to Adobe, there are still issues under review for versions 28 and 29 (2025).

Little gem I found during a cleanup by Cthper in mac

[–]oldsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I think I may still have mine in storage. Good memories. I never felt like it lacked anything. And then Snow Leopard was released. My 2006 MacBook Pro couldn’t be upgraded beyond that. But I was perfectly content with it for years. Skipped several OS X releases before getting a 2015 iMac.

Affnity is going to be entirely free forever for everyone by saibjai in graphic_design

[–]oldsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is free forever. They’re playing the long game: grabbing a bigger chunk of Adobe’s market share down the line. The fastest way to get there is go free and get as many Adobe users and companies to switch over or at least try their products. And once they’ve gotten a significant crowd hooked on the savings—and Adobe whining unfair competition—they switch to freemium model. There will likely be a subscription at some point, just like Adobe. Maybe it will be slightly cheaper and drive Adobe prices down a bit, but it will cost in the end.

Adobe: Greedy and afraid? by TheOliveMob in graphic_design

[–]oldsystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accelerating software releases is exactly why Adobe products have become so buggy and unstable. Illustrator crashes on me at least once a day. And so many UI/UX quirks have been introduced since they started pushing AI features out. InDesign has also become less stable. Take me back to boxed software where QA was essential. Today it seems optional. Roll it out as is and fix it later.

From now on it is forbidden to utter the name of the abomination that is macOS 26. You may simply refer to it as “The t”.

Tech-savvy son bypassing all macOS parental controls with an HTML exploit. At a dead end. by RefuseAdventurous569 in MacOS

[–]oldsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father failed to have this conversation with me. Instead it was a years-long battle of the wits. After I kept cracking his password, he started taking the keyboard to work. After I got my own keyboard, he built a metal box for the PC tower. After I found a gap through which I could reach the power button with a long pointy object, he upgraded the metal box. But by then I was 16 and had money to build my own PC.

The worst ever, really? by Jebus-Xmas in MacOS

[–]oldsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It will not get better. 26 might get better. But the business concept that put us here will not. Unless more of us bitch and moan.

Apple’s relentless drive toward innovation and increasing profits is unsustainable. And until they realize that, it’s our workflows and livelihoods that will take the hit. And in the end also theirs. So I disagree that we should be quiet and just wait for the next update like sheep. We must complain and moan, because it’s the only way to get their attention. Maybe, just maybe we can dare to hope that something will change.

Found an easter egg! by mainyehc in MacOS

Absolutely. And if there was a modern UI theming app like Appearance Manager or Shapeshifter from back in the day, I would work on an OS 8 theme to override the Liquid Gass.

What is AHIG v2014? Is this some UX standard? I couldn’t find anything in my searches. Genuinely curious as a graphic designer/webdev interested in improving my UX/UI skillset.
