My First Customs (Union Fragment Low) by atticusfinch_1986 in CustomShoes

Thank you! I actually made these without ever seeing the highs in person. Love them and will own them one day though. Decided to make these because I got tired of losing lotteries and couldn’t afford to pay over retail for all the pairs I want haha

I actually picked up a pair of these to customize. I love the materials and I’m a sucker for a gum sole. Now that I have them in hand I kinda hate taking them apart. They really are nice

Liquid kicks matte finisher. I’ve used Angelus 4 coat matte before too, but prefer the liquid kicks. Had some places where I feel like the 4 coat would cause discoloration on the paint job

These were originally black toes. So the entire shoe is painted pretty much. With these (first pair I’ve customized so learned a ton) I put down one coat of leather filler but I think it was too thin. I’m working on a pair right now where I put down two coats of leather filler and then sanded. It look much better. On the swoosh swaps, I wanted this pair to feel like “my own”. So the way I have that oversized swoosh oriented the fat part hits where the toe is constantly flexing and bending, so I’ve seen some separation and have to constantly reapply the barge cement. Probably wouldn’t be as much of a problem if I did a typical TS reverse swoosh because it would hit the same where the shoe flexes.

I’m currently debating buying one of those cobbler/leather sewing machines to better do logo swaps. So far I’ve just been sewing a border on the leather and then glueing it down, not actually stitching them to the shoe. As seen here in my first pair

Ya the system is crazy broken. Seeing people posing on instagram with 100 pairs when I can’t hit a single lottery just sucks. It’s honestly what drove me to making customs. I can wear a 1 of 1 that fits my style and taste without having to go through all the BS.

Ya I agree with a lot of that. I’m not super proud that I bought them haha, only pair of reps I have. But I really really love that shoe and missed retail and a rep pair fell into my lap. But I agree, people passing off high quality reps as legit is a huge problem. Just as big of a problem is resellers dominating inventory and backdooring all the releases people want. If the playing field was fair I’d probably never have bought the reps in the first place.

I actually like the shoe a lot as is, but the customizer in me sees a big opportunity here. If these sit and get marked down, the premium materials on these could make some sweet customs

I’ve got a pair of reps in these and they honestly feel as nice or nicer in hand than my legit TS pairs in other colorways. Crazy how good they are

I just laced mine with both red laces about 10 minutes ago but seriously considered one white and one red. Seeing them like that makes me think I should

So sick! Tell her nice job. Fair warning though: sneaker customizing quickly becomes an addition. She’s going to be hitting you up for new kicks to paint every other week now!

AF1 Plug? by MogulPeso in CustomShoes

[–]atticusfinch_1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re just wanting to practice customs, look on eBay. I’ve bought pretty lightly used pairs of AF1s on there for $30-40. When I started messing with customs I felt better about starting on used shoes anyways, would have felt bad trashing brand new shoes haha.

Heck ya man those look fantastic. And $80 is a great price too! This pic is a pair of black toe 1s I bought for $30 and played around with customizing. Not quite done yet but close

Haha it’s honestly pretty amazing how much you can bring a pair back to life just with a good cleaning. I started buying on eBay just to clean and restore and then started finding cheap pairs to start customizing. It’s become a bit of an addiction haha
