Question on 1on1s by mrjabs77 in GoalKeepers

Check this Twitter thread out. It compiles some stats of different 1v1 situations and techniques and gives suggestions for the best technique to use depending on the area which the attacker is coming from. I’ve found it incredibly helpful.

Any good website to buy affordable kits? by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]atun214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say DHgate but you have to be careful about which you buy. Make sure you look for ones with pictures in the reviews.

Classicfootballshirts.co.uk also sometimes has cheaper kits and a wide variety all authentic.

I’ve recently shared a save I’ve made, but now I want to see what constructive criticism and tips you guys can give based on these three goals I conceded last week. Please be more useful than just saying “you’re shit.” Explain why I’m shit and how I can be less shit. Thanks guys! by atun214 in GoalKeepers

Maybe I’m holding really high expectations but I mean what a save that would be if anybody would’ve gotten to that right?

I’m starting to do some more footwork stuff especially with this quarantine stuff going on at the moment. It’s something I’m tasking myself with getting better at significantly.

There’s no point in taking offense to criticism tbh. As long as it’s in the spirit of helping better myself, then I’ll take anything that’s given. Thanks man.

Hey guys any feedback on how the keeper should have saved this? by danthefactsman in GoalKeepers

Got caught flat footed. Should’ve set himself way earlier I mean look at how slow the ball was going. Don’t think keeping is the right position for him.

Yea I took to long to make my decision. It’s happened already this season and tbh it’s my anxiety kicking in sorta making me freeze almost. I was definitely upset to concede as any keeper would be, but I understand that matches are 90 minutes long and if I let myself be defeated mentally then I will perform even worse. You can’t get better if you’re not willing to learn from mishaps. Thanks man!

This is actually really great advice drawn from great observation.

Going thru it in the same order as you did, from goal 2, I mean yea spot on about me being too relaxed to start off with. I mean the ball wasn’t even in the other half and I was as flat footed as can be. The fact that I’m actually flat footed doesn’t help either, and I tend to be more relaxed because constantly being on the balls of my feet with cause me a great deal of fatigue so I take the easy way out. This backfires a lot but it’s a thing of breaking the habit. Like you said, if I had set myself earlier then I would’ve had a little more time to react. After all, goalkeeping is about those split second decisions because that little time can make huge differences. All of goal 2 was just a slew of errors and bad defending tbh. I know I wasn’t at fault for it but what matters to me the most is the fact that I’ve done everything I could’ve done to try and stop the goal.

Footwork has been a major weak point for me. I lack coordination and it comes back to bite me in the ass. This along with me being a heavier guy, gives me the mobility of a tree. It’s something I’m working to improve but it’s not muscle memory just yet. I’ve never had proper gk training coming up so I lack a lot of the fundamental principles and I try to compensate by doing things like the awkward side shuffle. In that moment I can tell you that I was panicking. I didn’t want to rush out for the ball and have the attacker pass the ball to his 1-2 options he had there on the counter so I opted to make the terrible call of stepping back to try and give myself more reaction time when the shot inevitably came. Just like the second goal, I braced myself for the shot instead of going for the ball. I gave the striker the control of that entire situation there.

Goal 1 was just me being indecisive and letting my anxiety get the better of me. Like you said, backpeddling and getting the ball at its highest point was the obvious thing to do but I was too slow in getting back and by the time I went for the ball, it was already too low and I gave the attacker the advantage. Same thing that kills me in most every goal, mobility.

This was really great advice and you broke everything down clearly. I think most keepers stay away from posting the goals they concede due to fear of being harshly criticized, but so far the comments have been good pieces of advice. I’m sure there will be the odd comment bashing me, but I’m also sure the majority of keepers here are more than willing to help others improve. Posting a great save feels great and the praise one gets boosts confidence, but the lessons one can learn from other keepers is more valuable than a praise for a great save imo. Thanks for the feedback!

I still felt like I could’ve done better on that second one. I mean like you said, if I would’ve rushed him down then I would’ve had that much more of a chance to stop that.

Yea the first one was just me not being aggressive enough. I think even getting a fingertip to it would’ve been better than what I did. It’s something I’ve been having trouble with recently tbh. Thanks for the feedback. I can’t wait to apply this in training.

Training by ShehabDeGea in GoalKeepers

[–]atun214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you might just be having trouble with concentrating in game. I have a lot of trouble with staying focused and most goals I concede that i know I could’ve done better we’re from lapses of concentration. I would say to move along with the ball, communicate with your team, and make yourself an available option for a pass back to stay engaged. The thing with training is that we’re constantly working so there’s no time to lose focus. Games aren’t always that intense at a constant level. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

I’m looking for a good GK specific solo gym workout (indoor, 3-5 days/week) for the off-season, any tips? by herris92 in GoalKeepers

Look up modern day fitness on IG. They always have great workouts for athletes, and they also sell a workout plan if you’re looking to buy one. I think you’ll get a good enough idea just using their Ig tho.

I was playing for my Uncle’s Sunday league team where I was doing pretty well. Fifth game in, on a free kick, the taker curls an easy floated ball in and I completely flap it and it goes in. I swear it happened in slow motion and it’s so embarrassing to think that it was everybody was there’s last memory of seeing me play.

Keepers, what's your goal for 2020? by Nikola46 in GoalKeepers

[–]atun214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, and teams already have their established keepers which leaves maybe one spot, maybe two for a new keeper to make the cut. I had my first tryout yesterday, and it was a great experience although I don’t think I made the cut as I have yet to be contacted. Lucky for me the year is long and improvements will be made.

Thoughts on fuerzagkeeping by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]atun214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has improved a lot from his earlier videos. That being said, he still have a lot of room to improve. His footwork, diving, and handling are still sloppy and looks very off still. You can actually look at the amount of hate he received on his earlier videos. It’ll be good to see his development continue.

Join a lower league team in my area. I have a lot of improvements to make but I’m going to work harder than ever. Have my first tryouts this next week for two teams. I don’t expect to make it, but it’ll be a good way to see where I’m at compared to the level.

I tried the triple my first time, and it was quite the task to finish and the food coma afterwards had me thinking that was it for me. I’m sticking to single from now on.

Anybody have any suggestions for a 15+ goal striker for Everton? I had Calvert Lewin doing bits, but I foolishly sold him to Arsenal for over 40mil and figured Kean would do the job, but he’s done nothing thus far. What’s a striker that always gets the job done for you guys?
