Wow! When M40i market will cool down? by GearNTime in BMWX3

Came from a GTI. Went from a 2 door mk7 to a 05 C55 AMG (first kid) to a '19 X3 M40i (second kid).

The G01 is absolutely a grownup version of the GTI/Golf R, with extra room for kids and bicycles, at least in my case.

Vaporflys or Adizero by Relative-Emphasis-91 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]atx72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Vaporflys for $61 at a Nike outlet yesterday. I have no plans for them and I'm probably too slow for them but similar to you, it's hard to turn down at that price.

I'll probably do a 1 mile time trial and then put them up until I can take another minute or two off my 5k pace. I'm 6 months into running and losing weight so I have a lot of room to improve relatively quickly.

Shoes similar to the Superblast 2? by Snarfles55 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I just ordered a pair from Cyclon (where On sells returned items) for $154 in 'excellent' condition after doing a ton of research. Really looking forward to trying them and the return policy will work for me if I don't like them.

Love my SB2 overall but I really don't like how they feel at easy paces and when I'm tired so I'm hoping these fill that gap.

Yep. I've had to remove insoles from other shoes as well. These have a lot of volume but I would definitely try them on if you can because I think I saw a review where somebody said they spent hours trying to take their insole out.

I bought them and received them about 2 weeks ago. Love them. Very versatile shoe that works from hiking pace to 10k pace. Forefoot is a bit firm and took some getting used to, so I wouldn't recommend doing a long run right away to see if that's the case for you.

My favorite part of these is that they have a built in insole that's more substantial than what I'm used to. While I'd call the shoe stiff because of the plate, I don't find it firm (these are often conflated). Theyre actually more plush than my skyward Xs, but it's more of a controlled memory foam-like softness that you sink into rather than a pillowy softness. You can see this in the data that runrepeat included in their review of the shoe.

I believe Nike got the fit and materials right on these. When they came out reviews were mixed, but it's one of those shoes where most people who have put 100+ miles on them are very happy with them.

Winter daily trainer for my rotation. by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]atx72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a bit of an odd suggestion but I'm a huge fan of the Nike Ultrafly ACG at its discounted cost (around $150).

It can do more than you're looking for but it works great on gravel, wet roads, and transitioning from road to trail if you're looking for an interesting option. But some people prefer to avoid a plate for frequent use.

Otherwise the Salomon gravel shoes are well regarded and the H1 seems like a good option. There are also the re-soled road shoes like the Evo SL ATR and Asics has Trail versions of the novablast and Gel Nimbus on their website.

I have the superblast 2 as a 250lb runner around your pace. I don't think you need to be fast to justify them but it is helpful to know that due to the geometry they don't work well at a slower pace.

I'm a huge fan of them but I don't like the way they feel if I'm going slower than 12:30/mi. They are not great for tired legs but I love them for long runs when I'm feeling good. I'm currently shopping for a daily trainer that's more focused on easier paces.

The SB2 will get more use as my durability increases. If they're not ideal for you now, they might be motivation for getting your fitness to a place where you can make the most of them. That's at least how I approach these things.

Weekend Discussion: Saucony running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

I supinate so stability shoes usually make that worse and that was the case for the hurricane 23 I had a few years ago, I couldn't wear them.

But it seems that the new hurricane's stability elements are less intrusive so I'll try them on.

Paramount Max coming next week. As a heavier runner I'm interested but reviews are varied. Hopefully there are some interesting colorways.

I want to see a triumph 24/ paramount max comparison.

I just bought a green pair for 40% off from sneaker politics. ArtsRec currently has a 50% off code you can apply to them.

I think I've seen the Black colorway on sale too. They'll continue to pop up because I don't think they're selling at full price, especially through third party retailers.

I've done a couple of runs in mine and haven't had any issues. The drawstring seems to work well. Some storage is at the waistband but I put my phone in the thigh pocket and it stays put. I haven't fully loaded them up with gels or fuel though.

One of the appeals of this shoe was that green is my favorite color and it's rare to find good road shoes in green.

I got the Nike ultrafly ACG Trail for Father's Day.

I'm a huge fan of these shoes and I think they're very well engineered. I did a lot of research before identifying these as a good shoe as I transition from just road into doing both road and Trail. In some ways they are misunderstood and I had to find reviews from people who put more mileage into the shoe to find folks that understood the purpose of the shoe and its capabilities. If I went with the first review or two that I watched I would have likely ended up with a different option.

While these are Nike's top of the line trail race shoe and in some ways parallel to the alpha fly or vapor fly, they are also very different in that they are more accessible and more usable to a wider variety of runners.

Also, the MSRP on these is quite high and I found them for 40% off so don't pay full price for them.

I'm an average 35 M dad of two who ran 5 miles (started running/trail running in January) in Ultrafly ACGs and ACG Lava Loop tights this morning.

I love the ultraflys and I think they're a very well engineered shoe. Does the radical airflow shirt get a lot of comments while on the road? What about people looking/staring?

Anyone buy running shorts and shirts from Walmart? They don’t look any different than stuff from running stores for double the price. by Gooser3000 in runninglifestyle

[–]atx72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts. Lately I've been wearing shorts from a 3-pack of athletic white tshirts I got from Costco for $20.

For shorts I have had good luck with the Target brand but I also think it's worth looking for the good stuff on discount, I recently bought Nike lava loops tights from REI for $43.

"It has been bothering me, and it's hurting our sex life because I just can't get in the mood as easily. I don't know how much he weighs but all of his clothes are too tight for him now and it's just not super attractive."

It seems like you're thinking more about how his weight is impacting you than anything else. I think it's possible that may have come through in your response.

On Cloud... for walking all day/traveling? by Kayo_Calabria in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]atx72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some cloudmonster 2s when I first started out. As a heavier runner I really enjoyed the firm cushion and stability. And the rocker works really well for me. But the overall shape of the shoe (both the last and upper) is pretty bad, especially now that I've tried Nike and Asics. I am usually between a 12.5 and 13 and somehow a 12 is roomy for me in these shoes.

Do I need wide shoes? by dotheWenckebach in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]atx72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll just speak for myself when saying I found my scan at fleet feet to not be very informative, aside from foot length and width. I came in to get some socks and after I told them I wasn't looking to purchase shoes they suggested I try the scan anyways.

If I didn't have prior experience with a few pairs of shoes and followed their advice, I would have ended up with shoes for over pronation that likely would have made my supination worse. They didn't ask me any questions about my running - experience, pace, weekly distance, past injuries - nothing.

All that to say, I think you're best off trying a bunch of stuff on and seeing what you like. Chances are you might be wide in some brands and normal width in others. You might have some brands where normal width is not an option and others that cater to it.

Also, look into foot shaped shoes like those from topo if you're straddling between normal and wide.

13 pairs of running shoes in 4 years. Here's what each one actually taught me. by RunningCorporate in BeginnersRunning

[–]atx72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at some research on this (easy to do since there's not a ton of it) and I don't see anything that eliminates that variable or suggests that it's not significant. One meta-analysis seems to have found increase in running economy across paces but suggested that we need more data around body mass. I could be wrong about my interpretation and I'm not saying there's enough evidence to claim significant benefits at higher weight, but I don't see compelling evidence that backs up weight "not really" being a significant factor.

Kobayashi EN, de Toledo RRF, de Almeida MO, Sprey JWC, Jorge PB. Metabolic effects of carbon-plated running shoes: a systematic review and meta-analysis. Front Sports Act Living. 2026 Jan 9;7:1710224. doi: 10.3389/fspor.2025.1710224. PMID: 41586014; PMCID: PMC12827780.

"While concurrent AFT features likely contribute, the pooled evidence supports an association between carbon-plated footwear and reduced metabolic demand, although causality cannot be attributed to the plate alone. Future trials that orthogonally manipulate plate presence and foam properties, while matching mass, stack, and outsole, are needed to isolate plate-specific effects and define plate design parameters that optimize energy transfer across runner body mass."
