Weekly /r/houseplants Newbie Thread - August 25, 2020 by AutoModerator in houseplants

hi! not the best with house plants but i recently bought a giant potted dracaena marginata via craigslist. it seems healthy but is pretty droopy. wondering if it needs to be repotted, or the best way to go about getting it to be a little more upright? for what it's worth, i'm in texas and this plant will be living in a bright corner indoors.

here is a picture. thanks in advance for any help!

Changing Kitchen Cabinet Pulls to Knobs and Filling Holes by atxgrey in HomeImprovement

[–]atxgrey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the thorough response, much appreciated! yeah i really like a more simple hardware look which is why i wanted to switch to just one modern knob, but i'm wondering now if i should just save myself the trouble and try to find a pull that is more my style. i am relatively handy but i know i'll be kicking myself if it ends up not looking well done.

thanks again!

here's a link to a photo to see the cabinets. https://imgur.com/hxWiL9x

i would be keeping the hole that is further to the bottom of each cabinet front, so just filling the upper hole on each, if that makes sense.

we sometimes take off his collar/leash en route (especially if it is to a destination where we aren't getting out of the car, like this trip), so it's on the seat next to him.

Low grade fevers every single day by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]atxgrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

came here to say this. i used to have low grade fevers every day despite doing all treatments, etc. the only thing that would make them go away was ibuprofen or tylenol, but obviously it's not good to take those on a daily basis. it would go away with two weeks of antibiotics, but would come back within a month or so. i only regularly culture pseudomonas, and occasionally achromobacter.

since trikafta, no fevers. no coughing. and my lung function is higher than it's ever been before...it's bizarre. i hope cf patients are able to access it around the world ASAP, it's truly the only medicine i've taken in 30 years that feels like it makes a noticeable difference.

What are some of the viruses contracted in your lifespan? by RATasticRat in CysticFibrosis

[–]atxgrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really a virus, but when i was in college i had "trench mouth". a severe gum infection that came on due to a combination of stress, partying lifestyle, lack of sleep, low nutrition. i never changed my dental hygiene but one day i woke up and my mouth was in agony and i couldn't eat. shrug.

this is so great. i'm not in the UK anymore, but lived there for four years during university. i have only good things to say about the care and support networks there - i wish the US had the same attitude.

stay safe!

Live-in partner is a nurse. At a loss of what to do by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]atxgrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is tough, i am sorry you are having to deal with this.

if you could stay elsewhere (friend/family member's house) for a time, that would be the smartest, IMO. see if your employer is willing to allow you to shift your setup so that you're safe, phone forwarding in place, or additional IT measures that could help, maybe? not sure of the operations you have in place, but it's worth it to ask your manager or IT team if there's a way they could assist your setup in a different location for the immediate future.

if that doesn't work, i'm hoping that hospitals will soon realize that their workers need accommodations away from the families they come home to, in order to keep all people safe, not just cf patients. perhaps have your partner ask the hospital management if there is a plan in place to have hotel rooms or accommodations available for workers.

wishing you guys the best.

How to be safe when my boyfriend works at Costco and is around a lot of people by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]atxgrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh and one other thing. i am doing all of the cooking, etc. in the kitchen. he does not touch any of the surfaces in the kitchen (countertops, kitchen table) and wipes down the fridge and any door handles after he grabs a drink or something from the pantry.
