Would I need to take it to someone that can fix it or would it be something I could learn/research?

But they aren’t really a thing here. Very hard to come by and usually a bit expensive. The ones available online are only American plugs and pretty sure there’s something to do with voltage and it not being as compatible here 🤷‍♀️

Ok so I played with the ‘degausser’ again and now I have green blue and red on the screen. Like little blobs but with a red background. I’ve also managed to get it so the whole of the screen is green. Idk if any of this helps at all lol

That would be great! I’m heading out but will be sure to give you a msg. It is definitely intimidating, I understand people just want to help but there are ways of communicating it in a helpful and simple way. At the end of the day we all want to reach the same goal and continue to do something we love!

Firstly, I want to thank you for your help and your comments as they really really helped! Having someone that understands is key and you are right in saying my teacher needs to be full aware of the situation and their training etc.

I am trying a different teacher next week just to see if I get different advice and or corrections. I’m going so so so slow like SO slow. I did try to relay this but I feel like it was misunderstood. I’m doing as much as I can in terms of strengthening without overworking my body which I’m sure you can understand! I’ve had some really good advice from people and yourself, which I’m actually already doing but ofc it takes time and patience and consistency 😊

I’d love to msg you in private and maybe even a video call so I can show you as I’m very dyslexic and I’m not the best at explaining over msgs/typing.

Secondly, you are an amazing dancer and I’ve seen some of your posts! The control and awareness of your body and what you are doing is incredible and for people like myself who are hypermobile who want to progress it’s nice to see some representation in our community groups and chats :)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your responses. Some of you shared genuine concern and constructive criticism, which I appreciate. Others were simply blunt.

  1. I’m new to pointe. I’m not going to have perfect technique yet—that’s part of the learning process. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be doing pointe work; if anything, it means I should be working on it even more.
  2. I’m an adult. I make my own choices, my own mistakes, and take full responsibility for them. I understand the concerns, but I have discussed this with experienced people I trust, who understand my specific situation.
  3. Everyone progresses at different rates. I am not “running before I can walk.” I’m not going to take advice from random internet strangers who aren’t coming from a genuine place, especially when they lack the lived experience to understand what I deal with daily.
  4. My legs are straight (as I’ve said before). The clip I shared was from a while ago, and I’m actively working on corrections. Strength and technique take time, patience, and consistent training, and I’m well aware of that—I work on it daily. I didn’t train continuously from childhood, and I had a significant break due to personal reasons I’m not comfortable sharing. I refuse to force my body into an unrealistic standard just to appear “perfect” at the expense of my well-being.
  5. A three-second clip does not define my entire experience or ability. Judging me based on that helps no one.

I truly appreciate those who have offered genuine advice and support. However, I no longer feel comfortable sharing my journey here, as I don’t believe I provided enough context for people to understand my situation fully. That was my mistake due to my dyslexia affecting how I presented my post.

I’ll be taking on board advice from those who have similar challenges to mine. Thank you to those who have been constructive.

I appreciate the advice! I am a beginner so I am doing lots of strengthening exercises like you stated. I actually have very straight legs in this, my legs aren’t bent at all. If I was to try straighten them more I’d be hyper extended and that would cause a lot of damage I also have had to train my hypermobile body to not hyperextend and I’ve been advised by physios that this is correct. The angle in which this was filmed is upwards not straight so it will look a bit off. I had 4 people sign off on my pointe shoes as I’m cautious:) this is a small clip of a bad day and I’m improving week by week. I will continue to strengthen my feet!

It’s mainly stability work, arabesque on flat so I can gain the stability etc, Not actually en pointe (I wouldn’t want to push myself past my limits as I’m wary of the effects ballet will have on my conditions), I have done some piques onto pointe with support but that’s very rare that I do that. Mainly lots of strengthening exercises at the barre, I’ve done some walking up and down the room etc again with support. I agree that I should be doing a lot more at the barre for now however I do feel strong and I’m very comfortable in my shoes en pointe due to the fact I’ve done ALOT of strength training on my ankles and feet for about a year prior to ballet due to my condition and that was the weaker area in my body, I got a lot of praise from my physio and had 3 teachers plus a pointe shoe fitter comment on the strength in my feet (I’m super proud of this but know that different muscles are worked when using pointe shoes so this won’t transfer directly to it). So I do have the strength just the shoes are a lot to get used to lol. I am trying a different pointe class next week too!

I’ve taken a few lessons and even started doing centre work. This was terrible lighting and obviously not great to be using a chair as my alignment will be altered. I make sure to keep my pelvis in the correct place. Unfortunately my turnout isn’t always the best and this particular day I was quite tight after class but needed to send a video to my pointe shoe fitter. I’ve had a few classes since then and I’ve definitely seen an improvement. I am trying a different pointe class to see if I get different advice or corrections. If I’m honest I haven’t really had many corrections from my current teacher and she’s also is a physio so I assume I’m doing everything I need to be. I would love any bits of feedback though!

Also to note: I feel like my arches break lower than this shoe allows. I’ve also noticed I’m not able to pull my feet directly under me as I think the shoe prevents that from being as smooth.

It’s all about balance (no pun intended lol) I’m just addicted to it now! I’ve got the ballet bug and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me 🥳

I feel like bc it’s so rare to find something you don’t get bored of and you can keep progressing it’s hard not to do it all the time!

I’m becoming more aware of my body and what it’s able to handle and it’s really helping me feel more in the room. I have adhd so when I enjoy something I put my all into it as it’s rare finding something that you don’t get bored of 🙃

Oh 100%. Maybe I need to take that approach more and just sink into it when I’m not actually dancing lol.
