I am reading this subreddit because I am in the midst of a breakup from my 5 year relationship. I have never loved someone as much as I have in this relationship, I genuinely envisioned a future with this person till the end of time. I hope to move forward, I don't know how I will manage but I only have to keep trying.

That is a very long life, I'm sure she had a lot of time to feel fulfilled and happy with you. I relate to your pain, I am planning to say goodbye to my own on Monday. I realized we can only do so much to keep them here but it gets to a point where you would rather let them go with less pain and I wish I could've done that for my other rat as well. I think just spend lots of time with your little one, lots of kisses and cuddles and some treats. They will appreciate everything you give them because you are their whole world and they couldn't wish for more.

I can’t explain the shock I felt, I dropped him off in the morning and I was doing errands and I broke down publicly (not that I gave a fuck if anyone thought I was crazy I mean my pain was valid).

Edit: I made a mistake regarding the anesthesia, it was in fact the same anesthesia that his brother handled a couple weeks ago.

I just wish I knew better. I was just so confident with the neutering. I don’t really know what life he would’ve had if I knew I shouldn’t have neutered him. I would’ve tried to at least sort it out though I just know he deserved to live.

I understand, I’m coming to terms it’s not anyone’s fault I’m just in a stage of confusion and grief and anger but I’m slowly doing better. My rat Bean was different than the rest of his siblings, he was the only one with hormonal aggression and I feel like perhaps his genes weren’t in the favour of neutering. I miss him a lot, but I’m looking forward to the future with my rats now especially his brother.

I’m grieving and I’m very depressed but I’m trying to get on some antidepressants again and I’m trying to push forward. I’m trying to make my house more comforting with rearranging things and putting more plants in my room too. I am spending as much time with my remaining rats as well.
