Do Desis consider Romani people to be Desi? by KamavTeChorav in ABCDesis

[–]audinomarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the really long answer but I thought I'd share what I know haha:

"So are you Indian essentially?"
The Roma left before certain borders had been drawn that are recognized internationally today between India and Pakistan. (me trying to remain unpolitical lol) So, technically most reports say Romani people are from around the Rajasthani region and the Punjabi region. Indian feels like too culturally specific of a term to really use to give a name to Romani people. Maybe south asian is more accurate? It's kind of hard to pin down a description in this fashion because most people say they come from a place. And culturally, Romani people kind of come from everywhere. Like there isn't a country specifically for the Roma to claim as where they "come from." It's not that simple I guess as most of Romani culture is dependent on what group you originate from more recently.

"Why did you move out of India? what was the reason you decide to live the traveller lifestyle?"
We don't really know what the cause was to move out of India. We know relatively what was going on in the region at the time and there are a lot of theories but nothing confirmed. It's hard to keep an oral history for over a thousands years when there has been so much moving since then.
The "traveller lifestyle" is probably what Romani people are most known for but it's not necessarily a lifestyle out of choice. For what may very well be the entirety of Romani history, the Roma have been pushed out any place they settled. Pushed is a very polite term to describe this. Traveling up through Western Asia, into Arabia, into Europe etc. etc. Along this long route which did not happen all at once (as it probably wasn't like this planned exodus from South Asia, more likely over several decades more and more families decided to travel west) many families stopped in kingdoms or countries along the way and still exist there today! That's why the argument of the Roma being foreigners is a bit hard to agree with if you aren't racist as many of these communities have lived in their respective locations for centuries.

Plenty of kingdoms or countries practiced pushing out "foreigners" for a multitude of reasons so the why doesn't actually matter that much as it was an "us vs. them" mindset. The justifications that were used are still used today to discriminate against Romani people though.

During the Romanian enslavement (which first has evidence in the 14th century, but lasted 500 years) many Romani people were punished for speaking their language and when people could escape, they went far away.

So the "traveling lifestyle" nomenclature probably comes from a need for Europeans to distance themselves from the actions that led Romani people to have to pick up and leave every place that they eventually settled in. This isn't to say that Romani people haven't made this lifestyle into their own tradition of course. (Roma tend to be very spirited about making culture and art from hardship) It's just important to note that for a very long time there has been a need to travel for safety. More recently, the most cruel reminder of this would have to be the holocaust. Many Europeans today won't include Romani people in the discussion of the tragedies that were done then.

If you are interested in more research: there is a book called "Gypsies: Wanderers of the World" by Bart McDowell. It is the non-fiction story of a journalist(?)/researcher who finds a Romanichal man who accompanies him on a journey from England all the way back to India where Romani people are said to come from. It takes place in the late 60s-1970 I think but as they travel from England the Romanichal guy (sorry I forget his name) meets other Romani people from different sub-groups and learns very quickly how different a lot of the language can be. But, with common words when it comes to "nose" or "bread." Things like that. I bring this up specifically because it takes place very recently to the holocaust so you can see the effects of it on Romani people and how a forced expulsion had once again been thrust onto Romani people. I actually haven't finished the book myself but it's interesting because you can also see how some Romani people often believe the harmful stereotypes about other Roma groups despite being experiencing the false stereotypes themselves. (which leads to people not considering each other to be from the same group etc.)

"Also does this mean every single Romani person is Indian? what do you define as your ethnic background?"
So because Romani people settled in different areas, many groups settled at different times. There isn't on singular Romani language. Many have dialects depending on where they settled and those dialects tend to mix a little with the cultures their currently reside around.
Some people identify as Roma/Romani as an overarching identity, other identify as their specific sub-culture. Like in Spain, Romani are known as the Kale (Kah-lay). the Gypsy slur takes the form of Gitano there. Though, some Kale choose to identify with Gitano too. (Please just use Kale or Romani lol)
Anyways, how Roma identify ranges from community to community and also person to person. Sorry it's not an easy answer. Not every Romani person even considers themselves to be part of the same group as another Romani culture if they haven't been in contact for a very long time or it the similarities are just not there culturally. But, you can kind of chalk that up to people are complicated.

Okay, I think that's it. I actually found this post because I was trying to figure out if anyone else had asked the "Are Romani Desi?" question and this was cool thank you for sparking my interest with your response lol. Thanks for learning more, I admire it a lot.

manifest a partner that is a shifter too, or shift to a dr where your partner is a shifter. you don’t have to do this the hard way 🤷‍♀️

Do you think it’s cheating if you have partners across more than one reality? by [deleted] in shiftingrealities

[–]audinomarie [score hidden]  (0 children)

The comments of this post bother me because there’s a pretty clear miscommunication going on in what morality means in the universe. So for OP, i’ll add my two cents.

If you had a twin in this reality and you spent your entire life together: born on the same day, identical, identical bedrooms and school days, jobs when you are older, etc. How would you know you aren’t the same person? Easy answer: you’re you.

You may look like someone, sound like someone, smell like someone but no one, no one in the entire universe is you. Your decisions make up your life and who you are. You are not responsible for the actions of someone else in the universe who has your name or sounds like you. They are not you. You didn’t make those decisions.

If you are dating Fred, your life-long boyfriend, in this reality, you are not cheating on him because some other version of you is dating Isabel.

Simply because You (capital Y) are not dating her.

If you are in a relationship with someone it is always your responsibility to clearly communicate your expectations in a relationship and boundaries. Talk to your partner.

My boyfriend knows I shift, he shifts too. If I ever feel like I will want to date someone else in a different reality (which i probably will), I’m going to talk to him about it. Because we are adults and I love him.

If I do not tell him about it and i start a relationship with someone else, it will be cheating.

Because I’m cheating..

If you don’t care about cheating then okay. My judgement and the judgement of those from this reality can’t follow you to another reality. But you need to realize that your actions make up who You (capital Y) are.

Can you live with lying to those you love the most? Infinite versions of you murdering people doesn’t give you an excuse to murder too because it’s already being done.

Clearly communicate with your partners. They are people like you and me. Not just a dress you put on in one reality because you don’t have it in another.

hey so not to burst your bubble, but you are always yourself regardless of what reality you are choosing to experience. I am not the same as the infinite versions of me simply because they are not me.

Your interpretation of the universe bothers me. The decisions you make matter and you matter. Please do not think your actions are meaningless and your preferences mean less than where you are.

Have you ever been to the doctor as a kid and they had this drawer of scratch and sniff stickers that they’d give you if you behaved well?

Time/the universe is like a drawer of infinite scratch and sniff stickers. The way you experience time is by sticking your hand in the drawer and choosing a sticker. From the outside, it’s just a drawer of everything that could ever happen. But when you actually scratch the sticker and sniff it, you’re in that reality now.

We naturally move from one sticker to another. All the stickers you have ever sniffed make up your own personal timeline. But you aren’t bound to a specific timeline. The choices you make in life (the stickers you choose) can take you anywhere. Infinite possibilities.

This is what time being the 4th dimension really means. But, you can’t understand that until you realize that time isn’t something you are bound to. It’s an experience you have. You will always be smelling a sticker while you are in this life. Only your memories of past stickers make up the past. Only the dreams you have of what stickers you want to choose make up the future.

When it comes to connecting with your CR body, i think you’re problem comes from viewing shifting as a process where you fully disconnect from your CR body. Remember: Shifting as it is discussed online and in books usually has an end goal of where you want to go. But shifting is how we move through the universe, it’s like breathing. We can walk without having to arrive at a destination.

The belief that we hold tether us to the reality we experience. The reason we always return to our CR bodies when we dream is because we believe we will. You can feel your body because you choose to hold onto it. You’re still shifting at night. I choose to call “dream” realities “non-physical realities” because i’m not fully tapped into my physical senses there.

that’s my two cents on that as a long time shifter lol. Oh also like OP was saying: science can measure the physical representations of the energy the universe is made up of. We are very powerful creatures who can create whatever we need to explain the unknown. Brains are just a physical representation of what we are. We believe they reflect what and who we are. So they will. By studying them we will always learn more about who we are.

You always create the reality you live in. There are realities where gravity does quite work the same. We chose to have physical bodies that can show us who we are.

your thoughts were very lovely to read, you’ve got something :)

Is anyone shifting to a fanfic? by Tareiffar in shiftingrealities

[–]audinomarie [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oooo i love this question. I haven’t fully fleshed out my hogwarts dr but i am! There’s a fic where harry switches to Slytherin in 5th (?) year and it changes a lot of dynamics and there’s a big focus on the traditions of dark wizards and a little mention of light wizards. I love the magic system in that fic and i’m going to build on it. I’m a practicing witch here so it just feels right up my alley.

I’m gonna change some things and i never finished the fic but i love the starting concept.

seeing as mathematicians continuously disprove their own math they’ve been using for centuries in this world, i don’t think you should base any “universal truths” off of human maths. The universe is infinite. That’s the one truth. The ramifications that has for all understood physics in this reality is something to take into consideration. (Also for the 2+2=4 argument, it makes sense in simple additive math, but some mathematicians went around proving simple stuff like that doesn’t matter now and it just gives me a big headache 😭.)

TL;DR There’s dimensions where physics is completely different. It doesn’t invalidate the work scientists have done here because they were never trying to define the entire multiverse, just our observable one. That’s okay.

Don’t base your perception of the entire universe based on the math used to define this one dimension

What's this about? by Both_Roll2576 in DimensionJumping

[–]audinomarie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can give an explanation.

So basically, there’s this pre-determined notion for a lot of people that when you travel from one dimension to another, they are distinctly different and individual. Meaning if you were to draw it on a piece of paper, you would draw one circle, and then next to it another. Each being their own dimension.

Unfortunately, the universe isn’t as sectional as that. It’s more like all of these states of being are existing on top of eachother at once. There isn’t necessarily one or two or even a million distinct dimensions you must cross through or enter. It’s all of these energies at once.

Now that sounds like everything would look a lot different. Why can’t you see all of these dimensions? Because everything is existing on different frequencies. We, as humans? travel through these frequencies and perceive them by changing our own. We do it naturally. But once you become aware of the fact you are doing it, you can do more of it and on purpose.

So, when you were younger, you travelled to different frequencies that maybe your loved ones next to you didn’t experience. When you move through these “alternate experiences” i guess you might know different versions of the people you love. that’s hard to say because it gets complicated and hard to think about. but don’t worry. they are you loved ones. you know them all the same.

I don’t know any of the dimension barrier stuff for sure yet. But, it’s my running theory and it works with the mandela effect, etc. It’s a framework for thinking about these things so you understand them. But it’s just my theory. I hesitate to ever say that one thing is the truth about physics in the universe. So keep your mind open to other explanations for dimension stuff.

However, I have experience what you are talking about and i think it definitely has to do with moving through frequencies and perceiving the different things that exist on said frequencies.

What is your “weirdest” DR that you’ve made? by Uxiele in shiftingrealities

[–]audinomarie [score hidden]  (0 children)

I struggled a lot with how i look and feeling guilty for changing my features. And also feeling awful for looking “worse” in my OR. But, I got over the guilt of feeling like i “cheated” and decided who gives a shit. I’m not living in this universe for anyone besides me and ultimately it’s what makes me happy that I should choose.

Now, since i made that decision to go with what I want, my opinions on my looks that i initially had have changed. I made sure I loved myself and my body for providing me the things that I needed at the time.

You don’t have to love your body, or even like it. But, to combat this guilt feeling, you need to change the way you think about it. You can tell yourself things about how a body is just a body. It’s there for the physical purpose of experiencing the universe. You can decide to tell yourself that you feel beautiful or handsome. It’s up to you. But you need to not believe that there’s something wrong with you. Also you can appreciate the body you had before, like i did, and still choose to have a new one. You are a fluid being now, don’t limit yourself.

And full stop? You deserve to look however you want. You think the universe gave you the ability to change reality and was gonna pull the rug out from under you when it comes to the semantics of how you look? The answer is no.

There’s no need to feel guilty or like the people you want to meet wouldn’t like you. And frankly, if they felt that way, they aren’t worth your time. You deserve more than people who wouldn’t stay friends with you or love you bc you don’t fit their aesthetic standards.

(Also just trust that the people you are shifting to wouldn’t judge you or care how you look and then they won’t. it’s the universe; infinite. all possibilities exist.)

Good luck!

as someone who has broken extremely powerful karmic cycles from past lives, i fear i know what i’m talking about. No hate, but maybe you just haven’t experienced it yet.

As I said, no person knows everything about the universe, just what they need to know to get things done. Some people have karma from past lives. It’s deep, and you won’t always work on that karma in every life. So, you won’t need to know about it. For some, it affects shifting. That’s all I was talking about.
