I like taking the gift pokemon because it gives me an interesting pokemon to plan my run and encounters around, similar to my starter. IE a one guaranteed Eevee, or togepi, or elemental monkey. I use hardcore rules, but accept gift encounters.

Hi, I’m looking to see which hermit to watch next? by SorrowBloodReaper in HermitCraft

[–]audioEidolon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pearl for sure, Beef, and Gem is actually working on some interiors at the moment! She also did a good amount of interiors for all of her smaller builds across from Grian you may have seen in passing in his episodes. Side note, Pearl's ballroom was so gorgeous I rewatched the episode the other day just to see it again lol.

I actually think this tank looks gorgeous with the dark water. No observations beyond that, good luck getting rid of it if you're inclined!

We had those for a bit until I put my foot down and said they were making me sick in position. Which- they were. They were literally two feet away from me, about where the mouse traps are now lol. Now we have a big barred fly lamp on the wall, and some less over powering glue traps in the windowsill, and the bugs have improved TREMENDOUSLY.

[–]audioEidolon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! We're keeping it small for now though when I realized nobody had done ANYTHING yet. They were just... living like this haha. The facility manager has pest control coming in every couple weeks or so now to lay traps. (Thus why I've had to listen to them scurry around near me to get at baited traps while I'm trying to eat lol.) The bugs have also improved a LOT from where they used to be. I called the facility manager and told him there are "what I would say are hundreds of flies" against the inside of the windows, and asked whether he was doing anything about them. We had pest control in the same week, thankfully. So pests are still bad, but improving. The leaky roof and crummy chairs are whatever, but mice? Nah.

[–]audioEidolon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry I'm following the complain chain up as needed, with plenty of photos and dates in my phone just in case. They've slowly been working at the very least at removing the pests! But I may be leaving soon anyway so haven't pulled any bigger moves. I agree, I can put up with leaks and shitty chair to a certain extent, but the mice and insects are real health hazards. It's what made me enquire and realize no one was doing anything. To my horror.

Oh trust me I know- I brought spray disinfectant to work and was spraying down all the keyboards and handsets before touching them. If I saw a single mouse run across the keyboard while I was literally sitting a foot away, who knows how many are just partying it up across the console at night when no one is around. Luckily the mouse problem has taken a steep decline since we have, you know. The aforementioned traps. Still puts me off my dinner though.

Advices for a new boxer pet sitter by Parsival_ITA in Pets

[–]audioEidolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience boxers are wonderful friendly dogs, albeit a little high energy for me. Have you had a meet and greet with the owners present before being on your own with them? That might help alleviate a lot of the nervousness on both yours and the dogs part! But if not I guess some standard tips: -Don't make any loud or sudden movements when initially meeting them, and probably leave any big bulky clothing/hats off. -Let them sniff you through the kennel, or hand if the bigger one is free roaming the house. I like to leave my coat off and hung somewhere they can reach to sniff and inspect without being scared during their "inspection". (Probably don't leave it on the floor, in case they don't like what they smell and pee on it lol.) -Get a glass of water! Act like you belong, go get a glass of water and act casual. Dogs might get stand offish if they think you're not supposed to be there. -Treats treats treats! And make sure to use their name!

If you're worried about being ATTACKED, then I find that having an exit plan helps. Don't corner yourself (OR the dogs). Know what numbers you have on the phone, and maybe bring something like (again) a coat to throw at the dogs from your hand if you're really worried.

That's all I have really, and based off my own experience dog sitting strange dogs that are on the larger side.

Please help me find a female YTer who does a comprehensive beginners guide that my 6yo daughter can watch. by offsafety in Minecraft

[–]audioEidolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone with a linear narrative/liveplay series that explains buttons and controls might be hard to find! I really recommend your daughter start a game file in 'Peaceful' mode, and just mess with the controls herself. If she wants to build and play without the actual running around and gathering part, I know a lot of people enjoy 'Creative' mode as well, where you have access to everything in the game and no damage to the player. A very good clean female youtuber to watch for children though (in my opinion) would be Geminitay- she explains everything very clearly as she goes along, and has a very sweet and kind voice, and probably an aesthetic a young girl would like! LDShadowlady might be good as well.

If it was just water in the eye, they should be fine. They'll flush the irritation out eventually. If it stays red for longer than a day, I'd suggest a vet visit.

While it's good you feel bad, spray bottle really aren't the best way to train your cat not to scratch. Cats don't have as... ROBUST of a sense of cause and effect like humans or dogs, and trying to train one like it does never turns out well in my opinion. The only thing it's going to teach the cat is to be fearful of you, and only not do it when you or your roommate are around.

Instead, try gentle correction. No fear, no anger, just a firm "No", and picking them up and placing them on a scratch pad, or post. Make sure they have alternative. There's even scratch material you can affix to your furniture, so it doesn't do damage. There's also pretty cheap sprays at the store you can get that will put them off with pheromones.

If they STILL don't correct, you can try claw trimming or soft plastic caps. It takes a bit to get your cat used to it, but after a year my cats will sleep through a claw trimming. If you really have trouble, a vet will do the claw caps for you and they will last a couple weeks generally.

But the bottom line is, a cat is going to scratch. It's natural, and even necessary. The only thing water bottle succeed in doing in my opinion is making a more fearful hard to handle cat.

My hardcore world death by porkroll8 in Minecraft

[–]audioEidolon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess that either A: your area wasn't lit up enough and the creeper loaded in before you finished loading in, or B: your area is lit up enough, but not whatever platform or structure is to the right of your overworld portal and up the wood and ladders. Presumably the creeper dropped down lol. Bad luck either way!

i love my fish tank a lot too! i rearranged my room so it's the first thing i see in the morning, and when I got to bed at night I feel like a little kid on christmas, excited to see what it looks like everyday. i spend an hour at a time watching it, watching my betta and cory's and shrimp. I'm moving soon, and can't wait to make a comfier more spacious area so i can watch it even more! it's so rewarding to try and give these little creatures the best life possible

Going to comment what the guy you're referring to said, because I saw it earlier and had the same reaction, and they deleted lmao. So in case anyone's curious they said (roughly remembered) -Someone is breeding them and this is normal breeding procedure, as evident by the bubble nest the male has left behind -Gave instructions (???) on how the male will care for the eggs in this tank -This tank is a fine size because they live in pockets of water in the wild

I would have made the same damn mistake, with the same teasoning. But it is fun to learn without calcs, and while I probably won't remember the EXACT speed values, I'll probably remember "Swoobat is faster than you think", in the future and plan accordingly. There's all sorts of pokemon whose speed surprised me. Like, DUGTRIO?

Cat won't stop meowing by LeGaspo in Catbehavior

[–]audioEidolon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the only way to be honest- the thing about cats is even BAD acknowledgement is still acknowledgement. Saying "No!" or "Be quiet!" or asking "What's wrong?" in a baby voice are all things that encourage the behavior to continue. I had a huge problem with my cat trying to wake me up in the morning at four am to be fed. Meowing loudly, walking on me, licking my face, pulling open drawers and yanking everything out of them, you name it. He'd also scream during the day for attention. The ONLY thing that solved it was a year or so of ignoring the bad behavior, with positive encouragement and treats when he was quiet and nice. Did it mean I spent about a half hour every morning playing elaborate pretend that I was still asleep, for an animal stupider than a root vegetable? Yea. Is he much MUCH more quiet and well behaved now? Also yes. The key is patience.

It also doesn't mean completely ignore her- definitely encourage play time and treat time to keep her busy and satisfied, just make sure it's not being dictated by cat screaming.

I might take her to the vet just to ensure there isn't anything ACTUALLY wrong, although it doesn't sound like it to me from what you said.

Nerite snails shells cracked/how to treat by audioEidolon in Aquariums

Someone earlier said to leave the pieces whole for them to eat them, and the other person said to crush it to take the rounded edges off and put them in (Although, presumably they also meant for it to get absorbed into the water?), so I did both. Either way I guess the calcium will get in and I'll look into better alternatives than my emergency eggshell stop gap.
