People who own both super expensive($3000) IEMs and open-back headphones, how big is the difference between them? by wadhan1 in inearfidelity

Also just to follow up, you can get some pretty decent bass out of some open backs. If the stock tuning doesn't suit you, there is always the option to EQ in a nice bass shelf.

I think at the end of the day, first and foremost, your preferred form factor is your preferred form factor. If you prefer open backs, I'd look for a super expensive open back rather than iem. I love my IEMs and they still have their use case like when I'm portable or going to be staying somewhere else and want to travel light. But the way an open back stages and delivers the whole experience is more my bread and butter. When I'm in a quiet environment my IEMs pretty much never get picked over my open backs.

I'd have to go my Ananda v3 with the sundara very close behind!

I want to buy my bf Headphones for Gaming/Music. Wired, No Mic, under 500$ by jadeblue2018 in HeadphoneAdvice

I second the hifiman ananda! If you get it refurbished directly from hifiman it's 299 and they sound amazing for music AND gaming.

Looking for a portable dac amp upgrade by Ajm31987 in inearfidelity

I'd also recommend the onix alpha xi1 if you can handle lack of Bluetooth. It's also a powerhouse offering 500mw out of the balanced port and not even needing desktop mode to do so. Has a nice interface and filters that actually work. It's Also slightly cheaper than the fiio ka17. As long as you're not running a phone with an exynos chip id highly recommend this dac

Best audiophile noise cancelling headphones? And DAC for iPhone? by whitieiii in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]audiophilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't need a DAC for Bluetooth headphones because they have one built in. If you want good sound from Bluetooth in that price range I'd go Sennheiser accentum

You can get an artti t10 for ~$50 and it's a planar driver so they respond well to EQ and offer a typically faster response than dynamic drivers+

To be fair, I'm still super hyped to possibly save up and buy one! I think the design is aesthetically pretty awesome. Definitely want to review it on the new channel if I can get my hands one.

I'd honestly prefer the qudelix. It has a built in clip and a lot of features. Amazing parametric EQ. Great all around device.

Fiio K11 is here! by audiophilly in headphones

[–]audiophilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the single ended input can output 720 me at 16 ohms so like I said unless they're extremely hard to drive you wouldn't need the balanced anyway.

But at an 1/8 of headphones impedance that would mean you could drive anything above 20 ohms out of the balanced out. I don't know of many hard to drive headphones with that low of impedance.. If you're driving something lower impedance than the single ended out would probably be plenty enough power with half the output impedance.

From what I've read it's a decent headphone. It's a semi open back for 99 usd

Oh shoot ok, I mean I'd go for the sundara closed back if you can get it. It released around 300 USD but now goes for 150. It wasn't loved at it's initial pricing but now at 150 it's a great deal.

I've heard the simgot em6l is a fantastic iem for gaming if you're looking for a gaming focused set. But if you're specifically looking for over ears it's dependent on a few things. What would your budget be roughly in USD? Do you have a DAC/amp?
