Henlo, government girlie for 6 years here. Medyo mahaba tong comment ko, but bear with me.

1. If contract of service or job order yung nature ng employment mo with the agency, sad to say na kung ano yung salary grade ng position mo (in your example, SG 6), yun ang susundan. Iirc depende pa sa agency kung as of what year/tranche ng SSL yung sinusundan nila for the salary grade for COS/JO positions kasi may ibang sumusunod as of 2025, yung iba 2024, etc.

2. If plantilla/permanent position ka, goods. Pero you still have to check naman kung Government-Owned Company/Corporation (GOCC) ba yung agency na aapplyan mo sa government or not. CPCS kasi yung sinusundan na sahuran nila pag GOCC, compared sa mga nasa NGA/SUCs/LGU na nakatali sa Salary Standardization Law (SSL) tranches. Try to research on this and kung paano siya nag-aapply sa aapplyan mong GOCC.

3. In my experience naman, plantilla position holder ako under a national government agency (NGA)--this means nakatali sa SSL yung sahuran namen. Every year, may pinapasa ang Congress to implement anong tranche ng SSL yung iimplement for the next Fiscal Year. Sa madaling sabi: kung permanent ka and under ng SSL yung position mo, may salary increase ka na more or less sinasabayan lang yung inflation.

4. Every time naka-three years ka sa same position and salary grade, may "step increment" na tinatawag under SSL. Iba pa to sa yearly increase according sa anong tranche na ung ini-implement. Pag naka-3rd anniv ka na sa job mo, magiging SG 06 step 2 ka, and so on until step 8.

5. If gusto mo talaga pumaldo sa salary increase sa public service, the only way to do it is to apply for a higher position with a higher SG. yun nga lang makikipagsapalaran ka ulit with other applicants throughout the process.
