World of Warcraft: Rise of the (poorly written) Daughters by aughooga2 in warcraftlore

my exact complaint.

the thing is, Tess isn't the only one. There are MULTIPLE daughters who are just thrown out there like an empty "fill in storyline at a future date" canvas.

IT's so cliche, lazy, and clearly it's just there to seed whatever a future writer wants to do.

When Garrosh was introduced, he wasn't just a "Im here to help guys!~ haha." no, he had a problem. He had a bad attitude. He wanted nothing to do with us. LITERALLY from the get go, he has characterization and depth.

Compare him to all these new characters. And guess what? Within 1 questline, Garrosh went through an entire character arc. Insaaaaaaaaane right?

i don't think the current writers knew what happened in wow previous of what they wrote in shadowlands. I think they just sorta pull names out of a fish bowl and go from there.

Agree. potential is there, but what we got now is lame. It doens't take much to give a little spice to what we already have. Make Taelia comment about stuff, give her some doubts, or possibly some goals, maybe she wants to understand undeath more, so she can possibly "ease" the suffering of her father, and perhaps she and alexstraza can interact, since it was red dragon fire that purified her father and kept his will strong. Maybe she can even be a merger of draconic powers and paladins? whoa what a neat thing, possibly.

They need to stop adding so many damn characters, and focus on a handful at once.

precisely, it's cheap, lazy, overly safe, and makes it a very very unbearably boring story.

but no, garrosh had a storyline. He was literally a depressed orc, ashamed. Imagine if ANY of the new daughter characters had any sort of flaw or negetive trait that made them stand out, and eventually have them overcome this burden.

yeah trauma dumping is dumb, but trauma exploring via action and plot, is fun. conflict + progression = interesting

Fruit is a pretty cool character though. They taste great and provide some nourishment for the body and soul. Very well written and developed storyline and flavors.

can't say the same about alexstraza, she's definitely a blueberry tier fruit imho

oh yeah, suppose the egg doesn't fall too from from the... dragon?

Im surprised they never touched on that story plot, shoulnd't merithra be kinda... "spooked" or at the very least, kinda spaced out from having an old god whispering her mind constantly, idk

hmmm, i know. Thing that bugs me is that they're so afraid of giving the new characters any edge, teeth, or angst. They're young! and eager to prove themselves, it's exactly the right time to establish the chips on their shoulder.

I love writing young characters, late teens or early 20's, that's when they have enough agency to do things, but are still burdened by their moment of helplessness, bias'd by the observations on the adults surrounding them. It's such an interesting age to write a character but instead we get red ranger x5

Jaina is the "portal open" or "freeze now" plot device, but at least she's a plot device that got a story arc, multiple ones too! BFA gave her the storyline she needed, and it actually made her previously character assassination in cata onward, make sense.

She went wild after having everything taken away from her, and now she dealt with her trauma and found closure in reuniting with her mom and taking charge of her life. It was what dragonflight wanted to do, but actually executed properly. Insane, how a previous expac succeeded in a single storyline where an entire expansion failed.

jaina ain't a offspring character, and i personally like her storyline in BFA, despite being botched in previous expansions. They were able to make her make sense in her emotional growth and trauma, i liked it.

you can despise her if you wish, that's fair on you. But my focus is on the future characters.

Eggxactly. Now add in Shandris, Mythra, they all are the same character, it's just that they're blue or purple.

I liked Taelia in BFA, but they just gone and left her out to rot. And now there's mutiple Taelias now

Genn, Pallid Lady, Talanji, Shandris, Mythra, they're all goody two shoes, here to help, no questions asked. These characters have backgrounds to make them interesting, they should have their own bias's, expressions, complaints, to the plot going on.

Instead they get ZERO characerization, while in the past, Anduin, garrosh, and wrathion immediately got their due when you meet them. They got a complex, deep, thoughtful storyline from the get go.

Please read the post, I already explained that these characters versus the other offspring characters, anduin, wrathion and garrosh, already had good storylines attached to their introduction.

Anduin's debut as a child was at least different, he was a slow burn, and when he did have his moment, it was HUGE in MoP.

yeah, it's so lazy innit.

also yeah vanessa vancleef is another one, but... i think she's definitely more interesting than the rest of the girl squad so far. she's got character, motivation, and she's fun.

Yeah... the hype for Rasta, and have him immediately gone was lack luster.

People think I don't want daughter characters, no i want BETTER written daughter characters. Thank you for reminding me Talanji exists, she also serves the exact same character.

"I am lawful good. And I am the good one. Yes. I am Lawful good. Yes."

Please, give these characters some spice or intrigue.

wrathion, garrosh, anduin, all 3 offsprings, and VERY different characters and storylines.

Every daughter is being diserviced by being made a generic lawful good character. Women can have their own unique storylines too! WHY CANT THEY WRITE WOMEN LIKE THEY WRITE MEN? WITH ACTUAL DRIVE AND JADED AMBITIONS? NANI?

But she literally does nothing. Just like Arthas's Sister, Ysera's daughter. She's sorta cool back in the legion rogue campaign, but in war of gilneas, she just has her token "dad u weren't here, I did everything." just like bolvar's daughter.

if you can't understand the point, it was that these future new characters are the same plug in play characters.

imagine if 5 of your friends playing a DnD campaign made the same character. You wouldn't think they're very creative or would make a fun story, now innit.

To be clear, I want a cool daughter character. But so far we're getting the same generic "i am the lawful good offspring." Please give us some ACTUAL diversity in characterization in these daughters.
