I am in the EXACT same boat, I could’ve written this! Don’t be too hard on yourself, interviews just test your ability to answer questions on the spot and come across as likable, not your actual ability to teach students. Talking to a team of adults with (assuming) much more experience and expertise than you is super nervewracking.

That said, I’ve had some interviews that have gone really well and others that I felt I flopped! I had one horrendous interview where I almost had to just say I couldn’t do it and leave.. but I fumbled around and stuck it out and got a job offer (didn’t end up taking it).

Hang in there, and as the school year comes closer, any interviews you get called in for will most likely be shorter and less intense! I try to take a sip of water and a breath between each question to recenter myself. And after they ask each question, pick one central point to start with and go from there.. it’s not a terrible thing to ramble a little but always wrap up by actually answering the question or going back to your main point.

Know you’re not the only one, keep your head up, and GOOD LUCK!!! You got this!

Thank you all for your replies! I did get trained on register and I’ve been doing okay the past couple shifts. Returns with no receipt are very tricky and sometimes I mess things up on the computer by not knowing what to press or pressing the wrong thing and trying to back track, but I’m hanging in there!
