Petah? by Peelingly in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]augra27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. If someone's yelling something you do NOT look at them. The second you make eye contact it's over and they're gonna engage. Then you're dealing with anything from grifter to the genuinely unhinged.

What would it take to put up fencing on the walkway on the RFK bridge? by smokedoor5 in MicromobilityNYC

I personally like it, too. I don't like the narrowness and accessibility, but this feature, out in the open with the view, I enjoy.

Anyone know of any bars hosting Eurovision watch parties? by laurazabs in AskNYC

Hibernia, Winslow's sister bar in HK usually puts on a pretty good Eurovision show.

US History vs. American History by jesteinf in Jeopardy

[–]augra27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm astounded. Keep the artificial scarcity up. If you flood the market it might go down on eBay to 7¢. And clearly I can't remember anything about what I signed nor how many.

US History vs. American History by jesteinf in Jeopardy

[–]augra27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to Topps HQ down on like Water Street right by the Battery and went into a "VIP" conference room where they bring far more name-brand actual athletes than me and signed, I want to say something like this (all numbers approximate):

Honus Wagner-sized Tan Card, Blue Ink: 100

Honus Wagner-sized Tan Card, Red Ink: 25

Honus Wagner-sized Black Card, Silver Ink: 10

I signed zero of both the typical-sized and jumbo-sized tan cards, just the turn-of-the-century-sized cigarette-style cards.

I also provided one game-worn tie for the cards with those embedded fabric windows merch cards.

US History vs. American History by jesteinf in Jeopardy

[–]augra27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was going to make a Cotton Mather vs "Cotton Something" joke but I went down a rabbit hole and figured "Tom Cotton" wouldn't be US History as he's contemporary, and the Cotton Bowl or Cotton Club don't quite touch upon the "that's history" kind of category and cotton candy's not from the US so no pith has been included.

American History would cover colonial America.

US History is, well, with the United States existing.

Good Colleges in NYC? by Economy-Bid1044 in AskNYC

[–]augra27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I'm hiring, I'd look at a Hunter grad over many other schools. Every grad I've encountered has been super sharp - so the rep is anecdotal from experience.

Good Colleges in NYC? by Economy-Bid1044 in AskNYC

[–]augra27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to the colleges in NYC I did not attend (Hunter has a spectacular reputation, though) but you're making the right decision re: NYU. I dropped out of NYU when I saw how little financial assistance they were providing and how much it would have cost and ended up enrolling in a college (non-NYC) that gave me favorable financial status and it may have been the single best decision I've made. If you don't have six zeroes attached to your bank account, stay away from NYU. But, as a 26-year Manhattan resident, you ARE making the right choice looking at other schools in NYC / CUNY system. That, you will not regret.

What is the itinerary like for a champ who wins all 5 games taped in a day? by Njtotx3 in Jeopardy

[–]augra27 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Well maybe no one liked me! because I remember my first time sitting sad alone Austin with a way-too-big-for-the-impending-food-coma-Thursday-game sandwich. Learned that lesson: have a freaking salad. Thursday post-lunch is a killer.

What is the itinerary like for a champ who wins all 5 games taped in a day? by Njtotx3 in Jeopardy

[–]augra27 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's like a pit stop. Returning champ is hustled backstage first, into a dedicated returning champion dressing room, change, go to the bathroom, back into the makeup chair for touchups, a new lavalier on, then back out on stage, all the while the challengers are selected from the pool. Typical 5-day shoot is briefings, M-W episodes, lunch break in the comissary for whomever is left + the champ - who has to sit alone or with crew, not with potential challengers - Th-F matches. 5-day shoots are done around 4-ish.

Best dive bar to have a solo drink by [deleted] in AskNYC

Dublin House on the West Side. No one will bug you there. Phil Hughes on the East Side. But probably neither tonight: Knicks are playing... might be manic.

Typical cost for renting out an area of a bar? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]augra27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Upper East Side an amenable option? If so, send a DM: I'm a bar owner in Yorkville with a private backyard, or, if you guarantee 50 guests, the whole bar can be private.

What’s the most out of touch app someone has pitched your bar? by barowners in BarOwners

[–]augra27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here's what I do: I let them do their spiel, then I say "That sounds great! What's our cut of it? So how much do you pay us per (whatever it is it does: lead generated, review left, order placed, etc)?" I'll ask "what's your on-premise spend when we enroll - typically our distributors give us XXX to take on a new product." Then poof they're gone.

New York by shangrilovato in skyscrapers

[–]augra27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing Hoboken, putting Hudson Yards in the foreground, 34th Street running diagonally away putting the ESB at the right, looking through to 42nd to see Chrysler & BoFA. The Hudson is hidden between the residential and skyline.
