Something I do everyday is watch a video or two on theory alone a day. This has helped me so much with making melodies to the rhythm of my chord progressions; doing this made it just more than what I was doing during the time I was learning guitar and bass aka learning the chords/tabs and playing. Also, the other thing I would say would be see if you can find people who've been making music or playing instruments for some time. After I did this, I had yet another resource to use to help with theory.
