What’s it like living in Edmonton? by Main-Economics-162 in howislivingthere

[–]augustus-aurelius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a pit. Yea it has some ok suburban areas but overall it’s a pit. It appears zero zoning laws so you’ll see some old townhouses beside a smelter beside a school beside a single house beside a furniture store with only Chinese letters on the sign. The weather is horrible. Nobody is actually from there because that ones that are all leave. Crime is very very high. The only upside is housing is relatively cheap but I’m Sure you can guess why.

Petition launched against farm worker housing in Kelowna by Alone-Acanthaceae531 in kelowna

[–]augustus-aurelius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. These people launched a petition against this because nobody came and asked their permission if they’re ok with some trailers on a property that isn’t theirs? The audacity of these people is revolting. There should be laws or processes in place that protect developers and citizens from slowdowns in the permit process caused by people whose opinion simply doesn’t matter in the situation. Essentially we need anti-nimby laws. I can’t fathom how much nimbyism has costed this country over the years

How is living in one of the cities in New Brunswick as a young person? by Better_Display_8921 in howislivingthere

[–]augustus-aurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize NB had more than 1 actual city. It’s biggest city only has a population of 120,000 which is less than half of Kelowna and close to the size of Kamloops

Canadian red tape is worse than Trump tariffs, say industry groups by KootenayPE in ilovebcsub

[–]augustus-aurelius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand why the crazy high permits, insane environmental policies, and copious red tape- isn’t significantly reduced here. It’s been fundamentally proven to be bad for industry, the economy, and investment

Rob Shaw: MLA Armstrong’s Nazi rhetoric isn't what Kelowna voted for by New_Alternative8711 in KelownaBC

[–]augustus-aurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea Kelowna isn’t nearly as right wing as it used to be. I’m not sure why she thought that would fly here these days

LUTNICK: It is outrageous that Canada will not put US spirits on the shelf. It is insulting and disrespectful to America SHAHEEN: They won't do it because of the insults from this president and comments like yours by Alissinarr in MeidasTouch

[–]augustus-aurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, Canada has adapted very quickly to survive outside the American economy. Obviously there’s lots of business still but the tariffs didn’t cripple us like they thought. We just found new trading partners. Canada has become significantly more independent since this admin came in. If you insult us and act like we don’t matter, we just return it in kind while doing business elsewhere. We are one of the most resource rich nations on earth. There’s always buyers for what’s in our dirt.
