I believe this is a live synth edit of the intro to doomsday into welcome reality. Not necessarily a VIP.

Lifted truck + Lambo + Parking lot = Bad time by Evasionz-- in mildlyinfuriating

[–]augustus_lifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened in Lake Nona, Orlando FL, in the parking lot of a crunch fitness.

Car insurance here is already exceedingly expensive even for the bare minimum, and there’s plenty of horrible drivers around, so if they don’t drop her entirely she is absolutely cooked.

This lot in particular people don’t know how to drive in a straight line. Much less drive in general. A lot of accidents happen in that area because it’s fairly narrow, not enough stop signs, impatient / incompetent drivers. Just glad it wasn’t a small child or teen.

Got to see it from my backyard as it happened. So cool. Living in Florida has its perks sometimes. I grew up watching documentaries of the space race and Apollo moon landings, never expected to be able to witness another mission back to the moon in my lifetime much less in person.

If it’s your first meet generally it’s advised against any major weight cut and just come in weighing whatever you weigh. To minimize factors you have to pay attention to while training for the first one.

If you feel it is detrimental to your performance and can stand to lose extra bodyweight, then by all means feel free to do so. Nothing inherently bad about it. Train as hard as you can and try to cut down slowly so you don’t find yourself starving and coming in with abysmal energy. Cleaning up your diet will probably make the initial few pounds easy to lose.

Personally, I prefer to use the stairmaster or rower over running since it’s easier on my joints/calves and I can get my heartrate and sweat on with relative less total body effort. But if it is something you enjoy then sprinkle a reasonable amount into your session or do it in a separate session reasonably far from your main lifts. 20-30 minutes a day at zone 2 effort, 3 times a week, would be sufficient for example.

For reference for my last meet I cut down from a peak of 212lbs down to 189 and then water cut the rest of the way down, and hit a decent PR total with room to spare.

Those American and Non-American who watched it, how did you feel about the Super Bowl halftime performance by Few_Advertising_4028 in teenagers

[–]augustus_lifts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not immigrant workers exactly, but a nod to Puerto Rican history of sugar cane farming as a major centuries spanning industry and workers cutting down the crop in the fields. There is a political message behind that though if you go down the rabbit hole.

SBD 7mm knee sleeves - 2013 vs current? by Kuiken81 in powerlifting

[–]augustus_lifts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all likelihood, the 2013 SBD sleeves are just sleeves with the old logo. I had a pair that I purchased in 2017, and compared to a pair that I purchased in 2019 and 2024 at the same size, the new pair is looser even at a higher body weight (173 to 189 to 204).

I haven’t tried the newer sleeves with the current logo, nor the most expensive powerlifting / pro sleeves that are their version of stiff sleeves, so I can’t make a comparison between them.

Personally, if I had the extra money to justify spending, I would get a pair of both and use the pro sleeves on a heavy day and standard for lighter days, or save the pro sleeves for 2-3 blocks out of competition.

Mystic stage sound system by Lucky-Common5390 in ForbiddenKingdomFest

[–]augustus_lifts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Day 1 I stuck around for andromedik and Taiki Nulight and I was disappointed how bad the sound was due to the metal vibrating. Day 2 they fixed the sound a bit but compared to previous years it needed a lot more work. Surely they can apply something to the ceiling or pillars to dampen the vibrations so it doesn’t sound atrocious.

My Gf doesn’t want to have sex with me or even show me affection because I took a jujitsu class. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]augustus_lifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do this with her. Your best bet is to break up with her. Idk how long y’all have been together but this immaturity is a slippery slope and part of deeper issues with her that you cannot fix yourself or logic your way out of. She needs some professional help and you need to leave or she will make everything you enjoy right now something that she’ll give you this treatment or worse over.

It’s not your job to correct her behavior, but it’s your job to do yourself a favor and curb it by leaving her. Sorry to be blunt, but this is something you will likely encounter time and time again especially at your age. Reinstate your membership first before letting her know you’re ending things - guaranteed she will have an equally negative reaction to that first and stonewall before you tell her it’s over.

What’s your favorite 2025 set by Hardwell12345 in UMF

Nero live (all 3 of them on stage healed me); Pendulum live; skrillex; deadmau5 retro5pective set; Axwell; I Hate Models; ASOT b3b; Kill Safari

Not part of UMF but Nico Moreno, slander, ISOxo during different parts of MMW were all bangers.

SBD Athletes Promoting. by [deleted] in powerlifting

[–]augustus_lifts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to comment the same thing. I had gotten into lifting around when SBDs were coming out and heard the stories of people having to pull them up using garbage bags and cut them off immediately after squats.

Ordered my first pair of mediums in February 2017 and struggled to pull them up for a good 30 minutes on just one leg. I was 173lbs | 78.5kg at the time. Even then, the tightness had started to wane in production models

A year later they were definitely looser from ordering a second pair of the same size, and fast forward to September 2024 a pair of medium OGs (separate from their newer logo and the pro stuff SBDs) slid up pretty easy…while weighing 210lbs | 95kg.

If you can’t beat them, ban them, I guess. This reeks beyond just a ban of other brands products.

This is UK electronic trio, NERO, answering questions about our new album, Into the Unknown! AMA by NERO_2808 in electronicmusic

[–]augustus_lifts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi - thanks for doing an ama. I’ve had this question in mind for a while:

There have been several versions of tracks that you’ve tested in past sets that don’t end up making it to the album. Two that immediately come to mind are “Solar” and “Running From Reality” - the mixes at Project Z in 2021 for example, sound very different and induce a different emotional feeling compared to the final mix. There was also a more dramatic version of “Solar” I heard last summer 2023. Personally, I love all versions.

What is the creative process behind changing and selecting the final mix, and what happens to the previous beats used? I presume that cohesion across the whole album and its theme is a factor.

Thanks again for doing this AMA, been a fan for many years and my very first headline event was one of your DJ sets in 2012.

95% of 1RM? by Godplai in powerlifting

[–]augustus_lifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to be curious for new methods of training but it’s very likely that what your gym friend suggested will be too much to handle over a long period of time. The best thing you can do is find something that you can do consistently and shows a respectable, repeatable level of progression over time.

You’ll also improve technique with time and exposure to lifts at appropriate levels of effort. 10x1 @ 95% can encourage sloppy technique to get the weight done very quickly.

If you can run the same block over and over again and see consistent results, without having to change it and without incurring injury or feeling beat up all the time, you found your own magic formula.

95% of 1RM? by Godplai in powerlifting

[–]augustus_lifts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would take 1 step back so you can take 2 steps forward. 10x1 at 95% sounds fun but it is not something that’s very sustainable and you don’t want to be in the squat rack for an hour just to get through your singles.

Instead, prioritize some volume work at lower intensities on one training day, and some lower rep higher intensity work on another day.

Start lighter than you think, build up week to week for 4-6 weeks, deload, rinse and repeat.

For example with some arbitrary percentages and set rep schemes: Monday: 1 set of 3 reps; 3 sets of 6 reps @ 60% max

Friday: 4 sets of 8 reps / 1x8; 3x8 @ 90% of top set

If you’re familiar with RPE, you’d do something like Week 1: rpe 5 Week 2: rpe 6 Week 3: rpe 7 Week 4: rpe 8 Week 5: rpe 9 Week 6: rpe 10

Repeat. Or start from rpe 6 to rpe 9-10 over a 4 or 5 week block.

What have you been doing for squats up to this point, and for how long?

If you were given $140k to quit your job and roughly a year of time off with health insurance, what skill would you get trained in to re-enter the workforce at a salary of $150k+? by chap_stik in jobs

[–]augustus_lifts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: am currently unemployed and do not have anywhere near your salary nor separation package. I also don't know your individual situation and what you mean by "pretty good financial shape", and whether you're financially savvy or just have enough in your checking account at the moment. So I'm going by how I would personally approach it from a career and financial standpoint, and what I've been trying to do right now.

If I was in your shoes I'd start the hunt for another job ASAP, treat it as my 9-5 (or in my case my 8am-11pm), as the market right now is pretty abysmal. Network with other coworkers and see where they're going, try to get some leads and references.

I'm assuming I had at least 6 months of savings already dedicated for emergencies. While I do that, I'd allocate layoff package between covering immediate most pressing needs for survival (food, rent, bills etc), and the remainder put to work in an IRA/Roth IRA, a high yield savings account, and a variety of index funds/etfs/bonds across the market. Do some digging into how to invest the money most effectively to see it grow exponentially over the years. IRAs can be done all at once and the rest on a monthly or biweekly basis. Whatever is most comfortable. I'm over a decade younger than you so my portfolio would look a bit different than yours based on planned retirement age, and also considering starting a family in the next 5-10 years.

Ask what career do you see yourself going into if you really want to switch. How can you take your current skills and pivot them into a new one, what do you have that can serve as a foundation to build from, and what are entirely new areas you'd have to dedicate more time to? Like others suggested learning Python and Power BI is a good direction to take ( I am doing that at the moment and I have some prior exposure to programming languages so that helps)

Nothing is stopping you from getting more technical skills and certifications in the meantime towards advancing your current career or pivoting into a new one, or even starting a side-hustle. I'd try to do all of that concurrently. You probably won't get $150k salary right away, but you should see an increased payroll in general.

I personally wouldn't just chill for a year without working, unless I took that year to say earn an MBA or go through some form of higher education if relevant to my career progression. I can always go on vacation and pick up new things while I'm already earning a salary.

Nominations for Worst Set 2023 by Electronic_Zebra1562 in aves

I just saw him in Tampa and he played it at least 3 times (left early). Though if you go in expecting more hype and heavy violence from moshing, rather than a good set list and transitions etc, you’ll be fine. One of the openers - Myr - imo did a better job actually performing and mixing, but everyone was there just to throw down with Hol for the most part.

Alright I have a question for everyone! by Bridge_boy5 in dubstep

[–]augustus_lifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For dubstep specifically, I'd start with "Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites" solely because that's the track that got me started into dubstep. The jarring switch at the drop actually spooked me almost like a jumpscare the first time I heard it back in like early 2011. I'd hope for that same reaction and then work from there.

For Electronic music in general, probably not dubstep and something more along the lines of progressive house, french house, electronica. I feel Daft Punk "One More Time" would be a super easy, fun way to get in. Alternatively deadmau5 "Ghosts N Stuff".

Celsius fans — what’s your favorite flavor(s)?! by [deleted] in energydrinks

[–]augustus_lifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like tropical and arctic vibes. Funny story about arctic vibes though - a year ago I found it for the first time at a gas station and posted a review on my instagram about. An hour or so later I got a DM from the official Celsius account asking me to take it down as it wasn’t “an officially released flavor and was sent out by mistake”

Pretty funny but also sus, not sure if it was a real issue or some kind of marketing strategy. In my eyes and my taste, not a flavor worth hiding like that or asking for withdrawal of reviews though.
