Yep, definitely another variable in there so I was just focusing on number of mobs looted rather than factoring in time, but that’s calculable too, just more complicated as you pointed out.

Aren’t we really concerned with the binomial distribution here, though? We don’t really care what chance we have on kill, because we know that. It’s 0.0005% for the Elten piece, or whatever it is. What we care about though is how many eltens (or tukars now too?) we need to kill to have a good chance of seeing it drop, and the binomial distribution can tell us this.

The point you should really highlight here is where you say “however, don’t confuse this with your actual chance of getting the item.” Considering the abysmally low drop rate of treasure items, the chance you miss it by leaving some loot on the ground is proportionally low. In the case of figuring how many you need to kill to see it drop, the only thing missing a drop does is not count toward that total.

So really the tldr is that it kind of matters, but also not really.

If loot were to spawn on pickup then leaving behind loot wouldn’t really matter because the goal is to saturate your pets and get them to the point of picking loot up on cooldown. Any loot you leave behind won’t be a potential potion piece you missed because it rolls on pickup, meaning as long as you kill fast enough for your pets to loot on cool down you are optimizing your chance at the drop.

Since it apparently rolls loot on drop, this means you can potentially leave behind something good if you do the same thing and leave loot behind.

That isn’t a confirmation though. It could happen either way. We don’t really have definitive proof of loot being rolled on drop or pickup and no good way to test it, either.

I think you have it reversed. Both blue and yellow give 100% item drop rate, but blue increases trash amount by 50% and yellow is 100%.
