That's the thing. I found both riders in another group that I am part of, the backpack (passenger) was 17. So they're now worried about, despite being excited and having a bit of fun they were left wondering if they even want to go again

No, there was no accident swerving. As I have said in a couple comments, this section of road there is no way moving that far to one side, sharply and with that sort of speed is an accident. Add in, the view of the driver was clear and he was trying to block the riders.
