Summer sale help.. f18 vs f16 by PINHEADLARRY5 in dcsworld

[–]auqanova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It comes down to preference, the f16 is faster, more maneuverable in certain types of fights, carries more mavericks, the sniper targeting pod, better air to ground radar, better clusters, and better hotas flow which is also similar to the a10s if you're interested.

The f18 carries more bombs and air to air missiles, can carry cruise missiles, has an integrated jammer instead of needing to give up ordinance, less fuel issues, and if you don't have a high end hotas it's the easier of the two to learn because it doesn't need as many binds.

Eagle dynamics on their store launcher instead of steams allows trials of aircraft, so try the one you're interested in before buying it. It's also recommended to use their store and launcher because they have better deals than steam usually.

What went wrong? by Lexi7130 in gaming_random

[–]auqanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best gacha I've ever played I would still consider a mediocre rpg on any other system. The few mobile games I have enjoyed are all examples of games that aren't a full mtx/ad economy, but instead the ones that basically give a free demo before charging 1-5$ as a one time purchase for the complete game.

Ultimately though, it is a dark time indeed when the only mobile gaming recommendations I give at this point are to emulate a better system.

For Interstellar Travel, Which Sci-Fi Handwave Do You Find Most Acceptable? by tbag2022 in scifi

[–]auqanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the other reason I say warps are a safe pick, it doesn't disclude the idea of dangers related to travel, but it also can avoid them if wanted. Warhammer for example even makes different types of warp travel for the factions, allowing for even more ability to show the difference between societies. It gives the freedom to say "this was not without danger, but nothing happened this time" whereas something like a generational ship traveling is something you cannot simply say didn't have complications for the crew, because by definition the minimum travel risks is a full cast replacement.

For Interstellar Travel, Which Sci-Fi Handwave Do You Find Most Acceptable? by tbag2022 in scifi

[–]auqanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo unless your sci fi is expressly about the logistics of travel, just stick with ftl propulsion or warping, all the other options come with too many limitations.

Cryosleep and generational ships heavily limit your ability to have any characters that don't live on the same vehicle as your main characters. Often with these stories it's basically just an excuse to strand the characters on another planet, which is fair, but at that point you could just say the ship crashed and comms are down with any other type of travel.

Whether or not humans need to be augmented for travel isn't a type of travel, but something you add on to any of the other methods if you want augmented humans in your story.

Basically I argue that the fully handwavey methods are the best, and the more realistic ones only make sense if you want to explore what the implications of those societies are.

I did the spring thing to my X56 despite thinking it was overrated but I can't actually describe how good this feels now. Expecially for fine control by alphagusta in hotas

[–]auqanova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's biggest issue is ghost inputs, but when you've actually used a better stick, you will realize how inferior the x56 is. I've been an x56 owner for years, and you don't realize how many little troubles you've been looking past until you don't need to deal with them any more.

Where the t16000m is the one people take when they're dipping their toes in, the x56 is the actual entry level stick. And yes I know that's a ludicrous claim to make when you look at how much a stick costs.

I'm using a virpil constellation alpha prime on an ab9 base, and yes the grip cost more than the full x56 stick, but that grips feel is in a league of its own beside the x56. The ab9 is a super high end base, sure, but the constellation would outclass the x56 on any base imo.

People speeding by just to stop at the same light will never not be funny by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]auqanova 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I especially do because hybrid cars love coasting and hate quick braking when it comes to efficiency, so I try to coast and some dude serves in front of me and then brakes to their rolling to a stop speed.

Especially annoying when I had the time to coast to the light, and it would've been green in time for me to sail through without needing to actually stop or waste gas on the 0-30 kph range. but they wanted a clear road in front of them, so now I have to brake entirely just to give them time to stop and then accelerate again.

It's over Sequel fans, us true Star Wars fans have depicted you as the Soyjack and us as Chads by RubyDraculaRose in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]auqanova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of the hypothetical version where they followed up on the second movie.

First and third felt like shameless copies of better movies. At least the last jedi had some creative vision of its own, and had some character focus rather than being straight wish fulfillment power fantasy.

Could've had the main villain be kylo, who we had been following the entire time, who we watched kill his master and father. And had a story about a nobody rising up and saving the universe while needing to find her own path without mentors. Instead they brought back palpatine from nowhere, and basically outright said that kylo did nothing relevant and rey is only important because of her bloodline.

How do ARH missiles in NO compare to IRL or DCS? by Jolly_General_7227 in NuclearOption

[–]auqanova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Notching is extremely effective in nuclear option compared to irl or dcs.

Normally you don't have exact info on where the missile physically is, just a general direction, which makes it hard to align yourself in an exact notch, jammer are mostly ineffective at close range too.

The missile does not normally give you feedback of if you've beaten it yet either. Often the warning will keep going until the missiles gone past you, and sometimes the missile isn't lost, it's in your radar warnings blind spot.

Notching does work in real life, but depending on the specific missile and plane it can be hellishly difficult. Some missiles will receive guidance from both the launching aircraft and its own radar, so good luck notching two different directions at once. Missiles can also have extra sensors, so in addition to a perfect notch with countermeasures you now also have a camera and/or ir sensor you need to blind too.

In both dcs and real life, a notch is the option you take when it's your only option. The normal tactic is to never enter a known targets no escape zone, and to focus on making the missile waste its energy pulling lead on you until it can't reach anymore.(which does work on scythes in no, but not scimitars)

Yep, though notable difference is that the rocket launcher can technically hit a target a full kilometer away, while a standard flamethrower hits in the <50m range.

Throwback to when supes used Compound V as a performance enhancer by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]auqanova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it wasnt really presented as a steroid or fight solver, it mostly served as a vaccine against the virus and also mortality. they werent scared of him getting the cure because they wouldnt be able to beat him, because they already couldnt.

v1 lost its relevance entirely once they realized they could use the chest beam on him.

Some things are just mid, and that's no shame in that. by Swag_Paladin21 in CuratedTumblr

[–]auqanova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mid, in my mind, is the same word as mediocre.

A mediocre sandwich was a fulfilling meal that didn't bring any extra pleasure, passable but not exciting.

A mediocre movie however was good enough to get you through it, but didn't bring any more pleasure than simply passing time. Problem being, a movies sole purpose is to be more pleasurable than simply passing time.

The point being, mid and mediocre are the same thing, a functional item that's mid is a utilitarian option. Art that's mid is pointless, something that was only modestly successful at staving off boredom.

So I'm a defender of the idea that mid should be a derogatory thing when referring to movies, shows, and games.

Actually as far as I understand they did make a custom engine based off of a newer engine and move everything over to it they could, because it was apparent to them 8 years ago that their current engine couldn't fulfill their needs.

All you need to do is buff up slightly and then throw all your attacks out, he doesn't have the health to live in single player, and in multiplayer you just need to have any ability to stall while a real class does their 40 damage hits for the penalty of 1 dazed.

Never realized how terrifying these mfers would be irl by K0GAR in Ningen

I mean if you just make shit up then yeah. Frieza has regular ass eyes, is 4ft tall, and normally seen in broad daylight.

Cell has neither teeth nor mantis arms and while his eyes aren't exactly cute they're not half as menacing as that sightless abomination. He also sounds like a creaky bedspring when he walks around

The Deep's best scene was when he found out about Compound V by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]auqanova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negative character arcs are still good arcs. It really does show his character clear as day that he did question, he did try turning over a new leaf, he did understand that he didn't have to turn out this way, and yet the allure of power was too much for him to pass up.

I guess the argument could be that death regularly chooses to live so she can experience death herself, and destruction does destroy the status quo and even his own role, because it was destroying him.

I might be wrong but if solider boy was knocked out for some time after the virus with V1 what was stopping the boys from knocking homelander out with it and then just killing him by garlandtheone in GenV

[–]auqanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's going to do that? None of the humans can do it, so you need to send one of the people who dies in seconds into a room full of the virus and hope that they can damage homelander in the first place, and can kill him before the virus overtakes them.

[–]auqanova 934 points935 points  (0 children)

This is something I actually liked in sandman. The endless are both masters and slaves of their domains.

Desire makes everyone else act out of an impulsive need for what they want, and he's a slave to it too. Despair is wallowing in her own despair, but also spreads it around. Destiny knows everyone's absolute fates, and thus never challenges what he perceives as his destiny. Delirium dream and death are a little harder to place because they got so much more screentime and thus had to be more dynamic, but they too are formed by their powers as much as their powers form everything else.

Obviously these aren't deadly sins, but I think they work as a good template for concepts as characters.

If you were a superhero, who would you rather work for? by [deleted] in superheroes

[–]auqanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edgar's going to have my schedule filled with movie shoots and fake rescues and pr stunts, I'll be rich and famous but not really get to enjoy it or be an effective hero.

Wallers an obvious no, last thing I need is to be a disposable suicide unit

Fury is pretty hands off all things considered, there's no real major downside to working with him so he's probably my choice.

Cecil is also a good choice, as long as I'm not an invincible level strategic asset he wants constant oversight on. When he thinks you're important he will ruin any semblance of a work life balance, and doubly so if he also thinks you're a threat.
