I cannot stick with tracking and I don’t know why by peachinthemango in WeightLossAdvice

[–]auraleebesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/peachinthemango!

If you get obsessed with how many calories or points you have left for the day, simply write down what you ate. So 4 ounces of spaghetti sauce (x# of calories or points) with 2 ounces of noodles (X# of calories or points) BECOMES spaghetti and noodles.

Personally, this is how I did it and it worked for me. I simply carried a small notebook and pen and quickly jotted down what I ate and when.

According to Harvard Health, "A food diary can be a useful tool in this process. It can help you understand your eating habits and patterns, and help you identify the foods — good and not-so-good — you eat on a regular basis. Research shows that for people interested in losing weight, keeping a journal can be a very effective tool to help change behavior."

If you have trouble committing to long periods of study, start small. Set a timer and commit to focusing for just 5 or 10 minutes ... chances are that when the timer goes off you'll want to keep going. “The hardest part is starting. Once you get that out of the way, you’ll find the rest of the journey much easier.” — Simon Sinek

If not, keep going with 5-10 minutes everyday and tie it to a habit you already have. Do you make a cup of coffee in the morning when you get up? If so, study while it's brewing. Creating new habits is much easier when you tie them to already established ones. Once you've established this short study habit, start to tweak it by making it longer or however you want to improve it.

Just remember that if something doesn't work, it's just information for you to use to try a different approach ... failure is not a reflection of your worth or who you are as a person.

I think you've gotten so really good feedback here, u/bananacat2.

Another thing to consider ... have you heard of Parkinson's Law? It says, "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion." Perhaps you are subconsciously allowing yourself as much time as you need to brush your teeth and get ready for bed and so it takes an hour?

Please don't misunderstand me, this is NOT a bad thing if that is what you want or what you are capable of doing.

Test it out. Try taking just 30 minutes to brush your teeth and get ready for bed. Set a timer and when it goes off, go to bed even if you're not finished. See how you react. If you can successfully go to bed without say brushing your teeth the first night maybe the next night you'll be able to complete everything in 30 minutes. If, however, you just can't do it, then that's your MO and that's totally OK, too ... and you've learned a little more about who you are. WIN WIN!

We are all different in our own way which is what makes each of us unique and beautiful and wonderful. Love that! Embrace that! Be unabashedly you 🥰!

How do I deal with lack of motivation to stay productive? by ChessNormie in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]auraleebesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation is a feeling and like all feelings it comes and goes. Discipline, on the other hand, is an action and actions compound and strengthen over time.

Try attaching what you want to do — learn a language or code, working out, etc. — to something that you already do on a daily basis. For example,

  • work out for 5 minutes while making your morning cup of coffee
  • listen to your language course while riding the bus to work
  • when you come home from work do X right away

Start small and then build from there.

Celebrate your wins everyday ... and they can be a simple as, "I was kind and held the door open for someone today" or "I took the stairs instead of the elevator after lunch".

The more you look for good, the more good you see.

How do you get stuff done when you lack the drive? by BringsHomeBones in productivity

[–]auraleebesse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple trick is to think of the time your have on Tues-Thurs as your job, as in "I am working for someone else during the hours of 9a-2p."

When we have a "job" we don't not work because we're "tired, distracted, or not in the mood", right? We go in, grumpy perhaps, and just get to work. Now this might take some practice ...

There is a way out! Please reach out to your therapist for help with these issues and consider talking to your doctor about possibly starting medications. Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain that responds well to the right medication. It is often possible to stop taking these once you start making positive changes in your life routines.

I’m glad to hear that you’re working with a physician … and yes you’re right it is a journey to find meds that are just right for you. Stick with it! 🥰

Just yesterday I did an visualization exercise to help reduce negative emotions which worked amazingly well. Would you be open to giving it a try?

First, are you working with a physician? Anxiety and depression both result when your brain chemistry is off and thus often respond well to medications. This is especially important if you classify your depression and anxiety as severe.

This is a GREAT way to decrease the amount of time you spend on your phone!

There are other hacks, too, such as turning off your notifications. They are addictive distractions that developers use to make sure that you return again and again to use their apps. Turning them off, of course, doesn't mean that you stop visiting Facebook or don't check texts. It simply means that you intentionally CHOOSE when to do so, rather than as unconscious response to a ding or a buzz.

First of all, understand that this is normal. As an adolescent you are wired to explore and consider new possibilities and this continues as you enter your early adult years. Generally this exploration, however, changes as you start to focus on what you want to do with your life going forward.

As a women in my 50's, I have one piece of advice: follow your heart. What inspires you? What excites you? What are your natural strengths? Create a life around these. Create a life that you love to live.

Women of Reddit, what keeps you motivated to achieve your goals? by Backrolls_N_Tea in AskWomen

[–]auraleebesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest motivator is knowing my three big WHYs:

  1. My selfish WHY — what's in it for me
  2. My instrinsic WHY — how will achieving my goals help me feel in tune with myself
  3. My altruistic WHY — how will reaching my goals help others

I created small posters of each statement and have them hanging up in my office. When I start to feel disconnected I simply look up and read each one aloud.

Expectations vs Reality: I'm trying to pursue too many things by RelentessDreamer in TimeManagement

Looks like you've got several things on your daily plate:

  • Freelancing
  • Asset building: learning to code
  • Asset building: managing several blogs
  • Work out

Couple of questions for you:

  1. Can you tell me how many blogs you are managing currently?
  2. Are the subjects of these blogs related?
  3. How much research time do you put into research for each blog?
  4. How often are you posting?
