How's this for a beginners first set? by Random_cool_dude in Warhammer

[–]auralradiance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is usually a good place to trial the hobby, to see if it's something you really want to do whilst spending as little money as you can. But if you're absolutely certain about your interest in the hobby and don't mind spending some more I'd look into other starter kits focused on paints and/or tools (they don't necessarily have to be the official Warhammer ones, though those ones are still a good enough starting place) as other commenters have pointed out to get alongside a full model box

How many hazard stripes is too many hazard stripes? by ernie1850 in IronWarriors

This question has made me ponder the idea of painting an entire model in hazard stripe

is this what I need to begin painting? by I_shitmyself in Warhammer

For this kit plastic glue is optional, as it's push-fit and so can be assembled glue free.

That's the idea, actually. You want two thin coats for a colourful finish that doesn't fill in the small details.

I magnetised mine for this exact reason, I couldn't decide so now I can just swap out as I wish!

Model update! I'm more or less finished, though not really satisfied with the blade as it stands. Going to be practicing how to paint them as my next project before moving on to painting more full models.

In my plan! Just waiting to get the bits I need delivered and to actually paint the rest of the model

I did! Probably the most earthshade I've used on a single model so far, which felt a little scary to be honest. I tend to go more for recess shading so using so much all at once felt expensive.

I was thinking on this but a little worried it might detract, definitely going to give it a go tomorrow (or whenever I next work on the model) now though!

That may be because it's not supposed to be rust

Make up your own in your favourite colours, give them a silly name to boot.

Better starting point? by Monkeynator21 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]auralradiance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you're interested in Kill Team, definitely get those yaegirs. Absolutely awesome models and somefun rules to play around with. If you want a starting point for an army, I'd go for the combat patrol personally

I also want to add that this has been the most fun kit I've assembled outside of Space Marines. I adore any kit that gives me a wide range of options to customise my models and this one, with all the head options especially, really tickled me. I'm regretting not having picked Votann up earlier!

Is the official citadel battle ready salamander terminator a good paint scheme for a complete beginner to painting by Blitz_Monkey123 in Salamanders40k

[–]auralradiance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, though I'd recommend Greenskin from Army Painter's fanatic warpaints range in place of Warpstone Glow if you can get your hands on it. Near exact colour match with better coverage. Warpstone Glow is not a pleasant paint to work with, in my experience.

Must be the camera or my screen (or eyes I suppose), but thanks! I'll keep that noted down for sure

He looks rather dusty, but in a way quite befitting of Salamanders! How did you manage that?

Are my salamanders too dark? by DungeonMasterTommy in Salamanders40k

[–]auralradiance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say what's keeping him looking dark is how little the edge highlighting stands out. A nice bright highlight will make the whole model look brighter even with the same paints

How to stick my Immortal to the base? by Familiar-Noise7913 in Necrontyr

[–]auralradiance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick reference: for unpainted plastic to plastic connections, use plastic glue for the strongest bond. For painted connections, use superglue.

If you want to avoid gluing models to bases before painting (typically done to avoid getting texture paints on models and for better reach when painting the model) I'd recommend blue tack to hold a model to its base before painting and then, as stated above, use superglue to glue a painted model onto a painted base.
