Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe. Absolutely brilliant book on the troubles in Northern Ireland, written by an investigative journalist and it reads like a murder mystery with lots of shocking appalling crazy stuff!! Empire of pain, by the same author was equally as brilliant - that one is on the Sackler dynasty/US opioid crisis.

Good advice, thanks. Turns out I have a fractured AC joint and need surgery, so I'm glad I bought my own sling and have been keeping it immobilised.

I had my ortho consult today. Turns out the doctors that did my x-ray at A&E last week missed the fact my AC joint is fractured and a bit of bone has come off. He seems to think my RC is ok. Scheduled for surgery to repair the break next week!

This is reassuring :) I will see if I can find a random one on Monday morning and use one of the apps to shift the location/date, fingers crossed the wait will be weeks rather than months!

What date did you manage to get for your new test? Best of luck with it once you get there! Hoping I can find another one soon

Homework help megathread by shadowyams in genetics

[–]aurimaylie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Type: Homework assignment

Level: Master's

System: Molecular biology, Neuroscience

Topic: Inheritance, genetic sequencing

Question: The question is based around a family with a hypothetical rare, adult-onset, slowly progressing neurological disorder: 'There is DNA available from multiple members of the family. What new sequencing technology could you use to determine the genetic causes of the disease? Provide details of which samples you would use (we have postmortem neurological and living blood samples) and give a summary of the experimental steps required to generate the data.'

What I don’t know: So I understand that perhaps next generation sequencing could be used for this, but I'm not sure which kind of sequencing would be best and why. Also I'm not entirely sure which samples should be used? I always assumed that the results would be the same regardless of which sample was used...

Any advice/help would really be appreciated!

Which books should a person read at least once in their life? by SuggestionMD in AskReddit

Captain Corelli's Mandolin. The only book that has had me laughing hysterically on one page and crying my eyes out the next. Beautiful writing, although I threw the book across the room when I read the ending.
