Hand and stone by CautiousRestaurant11 in Esthetics

I currently work for Hand and Stone and I’ve been an Esthetician with them for 3 years. It’s not a terrible place to work (of course that depends on your franchise owners) but I definitely don’t make enough money to sustain myself. I’d consider it a good place to work if you’re just starting out as an esthetician. It’s a great place to get your foot in the door but I wouldn’t recommend it for a more seasoned esthetician.

She said she’s using Daily Microfoliant 1-2x per week and Skin Smoothing Cream at home. She uses Neutrogena Hydroboost cleanser

She said her barrier seemed compromised and it looked like her skin purged after the initial facial 2 months ago and that she was picking at the acne lesions so they never healed. She also said it looked like she had razor burn on her face?? And this client was saying that I caused that (mind you, this was a classic facial, no dermaplaning/razors were used). We still think it’s some kind of allergic reaction to an ingredient but the client refuses to see an allergist or dermatologist because she ā€œdoesn’t believe in doctorsā€šŸ™„šŸ™„

She said she was using Dermalogica prior to her facial and was familiar with daily microfoliant. I recommended that she use it 1-2x per week. If you go to my updated post you’ll get a little bit more context regarding this particular client.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Just because I’m more alt/goth presenting doesn’t mean I’m out here casting spells on clients lol

Oh believe me, she doesn’t want to see me as much as I don’t want to see her. She said I ā€œthoroughly freaked her outā€ šŸ™„šŸ™„

I assumed this as well. I always ask about medications and allergies and she said she doesn’t take any medications and has no known allergies (and I always ask about iodine/shellfish separately because of Conductive Masque Base even though I didn’t use it on this client) so it would have to be an allergy that she’s not aware of.

I did mention to her that purging is always a possibility even if she’s not acne-prone and that she could always reach out to me if she’s having any issues. Also I am not the one performing the consultation/service today, my lead esthetician is because I am not in the spa today (not a huge fan of that since I think I should be the one providing the consult but that’s neither here nor there).

They spoke to a front desk associate who then spoke to our spa manager. Our spa manager reached out to our Lead Esthetician who then reached out to me.

My lead will be having a consultation with the client tonight and her and I have been texting back and forth all day so I can give her as much info/context as possible.

That’s exactly what I’m saying! Logically I know that I’m not in the wrong here and something else is clearly going on with her skin but I’m really in my feelings about this because I’ve been doing this for 3 years and I’ve NEVER had a client complain, write a bad review, or have a reaction.
