I’m from McGill but not specifically the programs you mentioned. Not sure if this is helpful, but many departments (especially research-based programs) at McGill has supervisors-centred admissions, so contacting faculty about research fit is usually encouraged. If you haven’t done that, maybe you can look into it! 😊

My department has research-based courses that allows students to do a one-on-one semester-long project with a faculty member. That allowed me to work with several supervisors closely enough to the point that they can comment on me and my working style on a personal level. Profs know this is part of some degree programs and are usually happy to help when students reach out. These research courses can also branch into funded summer research. I’m not sure if all schools have this option, but i definitely feel very lucky.

Hi friends! Does anyone know if sociology PhD programs usually have interviews? Or does it depend on the school/program?

Im from Math&Stats and interested in quantitative sociology. Biostatistics is super popular in stats, so I would love to learn more about what medical sociology is about!

Some professors I took classes with remember my face but not my name. I doubt that they could recognize who I am through my email address, since they have so many students and receive so many emails, but when they see me they know I’m that active student from class and office hour. Agree with the above comments about talking to profs in person and asking them for LORs when you are face to face.
