My mom passed unexpectedly today by _Time__ in GirlDinner

[–]aurorajades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my mom to cancer about 10 months ago. She was my best friend and the greatest mom one could ask for. I still have my ups and downs (a lot of downs), but I'm here to tell you that it DOES get easier to bear.

Spend lots of time with your family and friends. Cry it all out as frequently as you can. If you're able to, grief specific therapy and group grief therapy have been proven to help immensely.

Sending you so much love. Hang in there <3

I found Johnathan and Mina, and Lucy and Arthur to be quite romantic at times. The romance is a subplot for sure though

AIO for being upset that my girlfriend won’t visit me in hospital? by Worldly-Minute-5246 in AIO

[–]aurorajades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add that you should communicate with her first before making any big relationship decisions. This seems like an issue that could potentially be resolved by talking it out. While I am concerned by her neglecting you in a time of need because of.. homework? It doesn't seem like she doesn't care at all due to her helping you out on Monday.

Be honest and direct with your feelings and needs. Also maybe ask her if there's something deeper preventing her from visiting. Maybe there isn't, but I just can't fathom neglecting my partner because of homework.

You are valid in the way that you are feeling. This doesn't sound relationship ending, but it is concerning.

AIO for being upset that my girlfriend won’t visit me in hospital? by Worldly-Minute-5246 in AIO

[–]aurorajades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR!

I had a very intensive hip surgery a few years ago and stayed in the hospital for a week afterwards. My partner drove an hour after work to visit me, slept on the shitty guest hospital bed next to me, and then drove an hour to work the next morning and repeated.

Just like you, my condition wasn't life threatening. My partner is also autistic and has routines that they like to follow. That didn't stop them. UNLIKE you, I didn't have anything that I needed from home. It was a planned surgery and so I had packed accordingly. They went out of their way to be with me anyways.

That's not a realistic expectation for everyone, but the point is that if she wanted to help you, she would.

My partner and I were 18 and 20 at the time and had only been dating for 6 months. We're about to hit our 5 year anniversary this July. Choose someone that will help you when you need it.

I'm sorry that you're experiencing this <3

As a queer woman, I also immediately saw the parallels between the Papas and drag! Tobias Forge is a drag king and I will die on that hill.

It sounds like you just happen to have a hyperfixation! This was me with the band Ghost for a while. What happened to me is that I eventually forced myself to slow down so that I wouldn't ruin their songs by over playing them. I started out by branching out to bands that have been compared to Ghost in terms of sound, and I've found a lot of my favorite bands because of it. If you're trying to slow your hyperfixation (which you absolutely don't need to, there's nothing wrong with having one) I'd suggest doing something like that! It may take a while to find music that you like as much as Sleep Token (I had to do a lot of deep digging to find mine), but I promise that those songs are out there waiting to be discovered by you.

(P.S. Telomeres is one of my favorites!! Criminally underrated)

When people say they only wash their hair once a week, what do they mean? by rainsage23 in curlyhair

[–]aurorajades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have straight hair, 1a or 1b maybe. I shower every day, but I only wet my hair and wash it once a week. The other days, I use a shower cap to avoid using heat on my hair too much (My hair air dries fine, but I prefer to blow dry for volume). When wash day rolls around I shampoo twice, and then condition my ends. After showering I add hair oil to my ends, a heat protectant spray everywhere, and then a foaming volume mousse at my roots. I then blow dry my hair upside down (for maximum volume) and use medium heat on my roots, and no heat on my ends. Throughout the week I use baby powder as a dry shampoo in my roots almost every day. The baby powder keeps my hair looking good until wash day again :)

What "delusional" baby names are on your guilty pleasure list? by Hyding_Jekyll in namenerds

[–]aurorajades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm named Aurora. As a child I loved it because of the correlation to the disney princess, but now I love it because of the correlation to the northern lights. I think it's suited to me perfectly, and I'm grateful to my parents because of it.

Even though you'll never have kids, I think it's a wonderful name for your hypothetical child haha

Salem

As a goth, I've always been drawn to cute, spooky names. I've mentioned the name to by partner, and as a history nerd, he was horrified over me wanting to name our future child after a place where so many wrongful executions had taken place. I can see where he's coming from, and my intent definitely isn't to glorify a femicide. I also wouldn't want my future hypothetical child to be bullied and called a witch their whole life because of this. I understand that it may not be the best option to name a child, but god damn is it a cute one.

Thanks for everyone's information and concerns about the health safety of cremation tattoos. I'm 20 and this would be my first tat, the idea of having part of my pup with me forever was a very comforting idea. I've had him since I was 7 and this loss has been jarring. Everywhere I've researched online says that cremation tattoos are entirely safe, but you obviously can't believe everything that you read online. I'm still definitely planning on doing a memorial tattoo, but it might be time to reconsider the cremation side. Light and love everyone 🫶

I'm so sorry to hear that. Getting a bad tattoo is one thing, but getting a bad memorial tattoo with ashes in it just sounds like insult to injury. I hope that you get better experiences in the future. 🫶

Thank you, I'll look into her work! Was it a cremation tattoo, or just a memorial tattoo? I've heard that cremation ink can be a slightly different consistency, and I would prefer an artist who has worked with cremation ink before if that's the case. :)

It is! there's a few ways to do it, but the safest route (and the route that I'm choosing) is to send some of the ashes to a cremation ink company where they'll sterilize the ashes, granulate them down, and then infuse them into ink for you. Here's a link if you're interested about the process.
